A Night Out at the Pub

Jan 05, 2011 16:02

Surprisingly, Jack had insisted on a specific pub they rent out, and Ianto had stepped back and let him do so. Jack knew the owner, had been going there for years (and years and years), and so he could get the place cheap and quickly and still have the quality service that they wanted. And for an occasion like this one, quality was a must ( Read more... )

Ianto had the menu laid out in front of him on the table, flipping back and forth through the appetizers and actual dinners that the pub offered for food, should anyone be hungry. Of course, they were more than welcome to order something, all of the orders going to Jack's personal tab, knowing that half the people invited wouldn't have the right kind of currency anyway. He's excited to meet all the people that were coming, to greet them and have them all meet each other over good food and drinks, but he'd be lying if he wasn't a little apprehensive about the whole thing as well. He wants everyone to get along and enjoy themselves, after all, and social situations had always been more than a little stressful for him. He finds himself wondering if maybe he should order himself a drink as well, just to be able to loosen up a little.

McCoy ran expert eyes over Ianto as he approached, taking in the other man's relative signs of health with much approval. He didn't look 100%, but he looked a lot closer to, say, 80% than he had not so long ago.

"Hosting's always stressful, huh," he said dryly as he touched Ianto's shoulder briefly.

Ianto looked up at the other man, smiling gently. "To put it mildly, yes, it is," he said, nodding. It was true, he wasn't quite 100% yet, but 80% was good enough for him, definitely good enough to host a party, considering 80% was usually what he was operating at, with a job like Torchwood and all.

He motioned to the seat next to him at the table, indicating for McCoy to sit down. "How've you been since I saw you last, then, doctor?" he asked, with a smile. It had been since Christmas, and Ianto hadn't had his follow up appointment with McCoy yet, so. This'd been the first time they'd seen each other since the cure, as it was.

"Especially when you're dealing with a range of... interesting personalities, I bet," McCoy grinned, dropping into the proffered seat. "Me? Oh, little of this, little of that. Had some interesting away missions but it's probably all classified or some such bullshit. How about you?"

Jack sat at the bar, his first drink of the night in front of him, still virtually untouched, the night still young. He's planning on letting himself drink tonight, his usual choice of a tall glass of water set aside to instead have a nice whiskey on the rocks. The bartender has a fairly wide selection of 21st century alcohols, as well as other sorts of drinks, having been informed that some of the people attending couldn't drink anything alcoholic.

He has a smile on his face and an open seat next to him, and is feeling pretty good in that moment, looking for a friendly face to talk to.

Not open for long, Captain Harkness. Fresh off arrival with the others, Jim quickly scouted out the place, looking for a) alcohol and b) people. He found both at the bar and quickly moved to take up the seat next to Jack's.

"Hey, handsome, come here often?" If Jim's previous readings of Jack were correct, that was exactly the sort of bad line they could both be accused of at least trying at some point or another. Usually fully under the knowledge it wouldn't work.

Jack grinned, turning in his seat to look at the other man, nodding in greeting to him. "Clearly not often enough, if the clientele is as gorgeous as you," he said, raising his glass to the other man. "Care to stop by for a drink, there, Captain?" he asked, tossing the title in more to flirt with it than anything else.

"I most certainly would, Captain." The title's got the same flirty ring coming from Jim, and he even throws in a wink before waving over the bartender.

Giselle arrived fairly early on. She came bearing a batch of freshly made cookies, as she never liked to arrive at a party empty handed. She's very excited to be there and as usual has a bright smile on her face as she greets everyone. She will be taking it easy of course due to her pregnancy, so she'll be sitting down at one of the tables for now.

Ianto raises his head to see Giselle come in and hurries over to her table, grabbing a seat next to her. He smiles at her brightly. "Giselle," he says, pulling his chair up so that they could talk. "I'm so glad you could make it. You look gorgeous."

Giselle gives him a kind smile, her cheeks turning a light shade of pink.

"Thank you, Ianto. That's very kind of you," she replied. "You look quite handsome, as well."

He chuckled, shaking his head. "Yes, well. I try. Jack managed to convince me out of wearing another suit, though," he said, motioning down to his jeans. Couldn't get rid of the dress shirt, though, so Ianto was still looking more like dressy casual than casual, really.

Gwen appeared a bit later, looking a bit harried. Still, for her rush, there was a small smile on her face and while she had been tired lately, things had started to settle a bit more in her life, which made her a good deal more pleasant to be around.

She took a moment to glance around, noting the atmosphere of the place with silent approval.

Ianto spotted Gwen coming in from across the room and flagged her down, motioning for her to join him at his table. "Got a seat just for you," he said, with a smile to her. "You can at least leave your jacket here, if nothing else."

Her smile grew a little as she saw Ianto across the way, changing her pace to head towards his table. There was no hesitation as she bent down to brush a kiss to his cheek.

"'lo, Ianto. You're looking nice tonight."

He kissed her back before he looked down at the dress shirt and jeans that he was wearing. "Well, thanks, but. You're probably just saying that because it's the first time you haven't seen me covered in grit from work in a while," he said shrugging but smiling and blushing in appreciation of her compliment. "You're looking pretty posh yourself tonight, might I add," he added.

Scotty hadn't been planning on attending the party. It wasn't that he didn't want to get out and socialize. It was just... Well. It was one thing to get off shift and to go hang out in the rec room and be social on the Enterprise, and quite another altogether to leave the ship entirely, to head to different world. Granted, he'd agreed to visit Jack every now and then to help out with brewing some hypervodka, but he'd made it clear that it would only be when he had enough downtime.

But Jim had insisted, and while Scotty was reasonably certain Jim would stop short of directly ordering him to go, he didn't want to push it. So there he was, because everyone else on the Enterprise who was part of the community had been invited too, and because he'd agreed after some prodding that he could do with a bit of time to relax and unwind.

Jack grinned widely as Scotty entered the pub, raising his glass to him from across the way. "Hey there, soldier," he said, using the nickname he'd taken to calling the other man, whenever he was teasing him. "Care for a drink? Don't have Saurian brandy, but I'm sure we can come up with something you'd like, here."

lt_cmmdr_scott January 6 2011, 03:36:17 UTC
Oh, and that had been another reason Scotty had been a bit reluctant about going. Jack. It wasn't that he didn't like Jack. The man was fun to hang out with, and fun to talk to, and well... Just all-around fun, really. But after that photo Jack had sent him, Scotty wasn't certain he'd be able to look Jack in the eye without turning bright red or possibly stumbling over his words and making himself look like a complete tosser.

Nevertheless, it'd be horribly rude of him to just ignore Jack, so he made his over to the bar, not quite looking at the other man. "Ah. Guinness, if you've got it."

The bartender nodded and set about filling up a glass from the tap as Jack shook his head, grinning. "Scotty," he said, chuckling. "It's the 21st century, and you're in Wales. Of course they've got Guinness. Probably the nicest, most true to the original version of it that you'll ever get, without going any further back in time, that is," he said with a smile.
