Ayris raises Mosrael after being promised sexual favors. They make it to the Decaying Forest before Merle interferes, taking Mosrael's debt as her own. Then the deity sends Ayris away and this happens...

After Raseleanne tries and fails to steal from Brunhilda, she asks Breiden to attack so he can administrate a cure blindness pill. Breiden is toxined during the short fight and then Ayris shows up... along with a very mercenary god.

Since Aschal was disbanded, the Breiden of CoM evolved to be a much darker character. I suppose in my mind there's a division between the two; one Breiden has the happy fairytale ending where Ty is there to support him and the other Breiden is this.
