Lisa and I have scrapped our ambitions Pacific NW trip due to insufficient funds and have instead plotteed a road trip up the world famous "emo corridor" (I-35) to the cities of Kansas City, Des Moines, and Minneapolis/St. Paul. man, they're both great. I love old travel posters. I bought another one today-(because having 5 provide a better visual balance than having 4. Also I thought it was cool.)

Definitely the Alps. You should drive two hours east from Des Moines and visit Moline, IL, the birthplace of Randall Charles Heyer. It's a treat (about as cool as Des Moines, which is to say, not at all).

Sadness that you're not visiting the pnw home of people who wear socks with sandals. It is rather gorgeous here and you don't even have to do anything touristy either.
