I took a trip to Santos yesterday, more or less with the sole intention of meeting Vivi's family. Ultimately, it wound up being one of the more rational decisions I've made in Brazil (i.e., taking a tugboat to travel between Argentina to Uruguay) and more than made up for spending one week in Belo Horizonte ( Read more... )

I am also kind of amazed at what the rest of the world thinks of compton, rap, and gang culture in general. I think they think visiting compton is on par with us visiting normandy or the louvre.

A good portion of the Brazilian adults that I've met with dreams of seeing the United States cite only Disney as the main reason. I know of no one in the USA over 13 who would genuinely like to go there, unless it's as some sort of graduation joke. But it's just tourism--our culture is promulgated around the world and all--which is what I've been doing here. It's like that.

Black culture seems to be popular here, too.

Personally, I'm still fascinated by all those taxis in New York City. I'm booking a flight immediately.

The only time I purposefully lied to her was when I stared deep into her eyes and told her that I couldn't love her, and that we could never be together.

Were you a part of the Compton squad in Jackson State during the hurricane evacuation? I know Monica and Diego were. We claimed some bleachers and slept under them.
