I began writing the thesis today. The goal is a round 100 pages. I have some 20 and it's still the introductory chapter. I'll keep hope alive. The sad fact is that I wasn't really thinking, so on occasion, the words simply run over each other in a hectic tumble-orgy to complete an idea that sounded good in my head. I took a trip to Santos yesterday, more or less with the sole intention of meeting Vivi's family. Ultimately, it wound up being one of the more rational decisions I've made in Brazil (i.e., taking a tugboat to travel between Argentina to Uruguay) and more than made up for spending one week in Belo Horizonte ( Read more... )

I went to my second rave last night. It was held at some ranch three hours south of my house, which, since this is São Paulo, still lies within the city limits. Our college's main office on campus was recently taken over by the students in a somewhat organized coup. Everyone is making a big deal out of it, with comments running the gamut from "illegal" to "cool." Emotions are running pretty high, I guess.
