i'm thinking of getting some therapy too. the first session went well? that's good. that's what i'm scared of. and how does one go and find a therapist? phone book? i think not.

and i think my therapist will tell me to do everything that i'm not doing, and stop doing everything i am doing.

change is good, no?

yeah, i was totally scared going into it. and if it says anything about my nerves, it took me over a year to finally call someone and make an appointment. i got the referral for the place (not the specific therapist) from a friend a few weeks ago, so that made it easier. my only advice, given my limited experience thus far, would be to find a place with a bunch of therapists and someone who tries to match you up with someone. and a place who will let you switch to another therapist if you don't hit it off with the first one. that seems to be the best thing about this place so far. we'll see...

i have always believed that therapy is a good thing in theory, but the only time i've ever had good therapy in real life was from my dean at wellesley. she was the most wonderful therapist masquerading in dean's clothing.

i didn't even think about it as i was writing it, but i'm sorry if my slip-up induced any shock or heart trouble. ;)

p.s. i don't think i will end up sleeping with him. we just didn't click in that way....

shopping advice : you will be able to find a cheap flight to floride sometime before february. Wait for an e-saver - now those let you book further in advance, not just the upcoming weekend. Or try to fly from Providence. There are ways to get cheaper flights. If it's not cheap now, then it will be sometime soon. Just keep watching.
Driving to Florida is NOT fun. No matter who you're with. There are just too many Waffle Houses...

And I agree - numbers are yummy. :O)

Good luck!

yeah, i know. i even hate driving to michigan, which is only about 2/3 as long...

the one thing is, if we drive, then she can play a few gigs along the way and actually end up making money on the trip.... so that must also be considered. but i don't think she's leaning toward wanting to do that anyway....

So, according to my parents, it's cheaper to fly than to drive. This is from Albany, though, where you can usually fly for $200 or less. Which means it is $400 for two people to fly round-trip. And it's like a thousand miles each way, say $.32 a mile (which is what standard reimbursement rates for driving are), and that's like $320 each way, so $640 round-trip. So at least from Albany, I think it's cheaper to fly. But maybe flights are more expensive from Boston?

I have no idea about tolls, etc., though I can ask my parents if they know.
I just know that they've figured it out based on the $.32/mile figure, which is some standard rate. Like, if you drive your own car for goign on a work-trip, most companies will reimburse you at $.32 or $.33 a mile--that's also what they charged at Swellesley to rent the student activities vehicles. I think that somehow accounts for gas, wear on the car, insurance depreciation, and anything else car-related. It doesn't account for hotels and/or food, though. . .
