So I've decided that I just do not have enough time to finish Gluttony in time for DragonCon. I've spent too much to rush any aspect of this costume, and with my current schedule, I'd need to rush bigtime. So after a few hours of fumbling with giant pvc pipes, trying to make them work as a core for the mold, I realized that this just isn't going to work. The cores need to be casts of my arms so they fit right. That and the molds aren't as tight as I need them to be (there are some HUGE gaps in the one I patched up), which would equal major leakage if ( Read more... )

Well, sorta. Maybe I'm speaking too soon, but I don't think so. I patched the mold up well enough to use for the whole arm. It's not perfect, but it will be good enough. I'm confident enough in my foam running skills that I think I can run it with no problems. So yeah. I lost a couple days, but I think I'll be okay. I will know tomorrow, I'm ( Read more... )

So I finally got the arm mold open. :\

In pieces.

Several.

Basically what happened is that the additive I used in the plaster bonded with the acrylic clearcoat that I used to seal the clay. I know how to avoid it in the future though, and that's what matters.

( And what about the motherfucking lemonade? )

My arm molds are ruined. They wouldn't release and then the burlap seperated from the plaster. I'm pretty much fucked. :(

A quick test fit with the fat suit, the neck in the side profile is only bulging because of the neck cooler I had on, I've since made room for it under the foam, so it doesn't bulge like that anymore.

Okay, it's not that bad, but latex foam is very hard to do correctly in a dry hot climate. The first batch was a near disaster. I added the reccomended amount of gelling agent, but found out quickly that in hot climates, it's not reccomended to use the full amount of gelling agent. My batch gelled up after about 60 seconds, which was not expected. ( Read more... )
