I remember that I first read the novel by Alexandre Dumas while skiing in Vail, Colorado, at the age of 15, but all I can remember from back then is that it was brilliant and enormous fun, not any details of the plot. Recently, I found a copy in Shanghai, and since it cost the princely sum of 20 renminbi (about 2 quid), I thought I'd read to it ( Read more... )

How bizarre! I, too, adore this book, and the copy I have is also one that was picked up in China! It's been years since I read it though - I devoured it in five days back when I was in secondary school. I really should read it again.

- take all your friends to lunch,
- buy some new duds,
- get a valet,
- acquire a mistress.
