With enough diligence and care, Starfire firmly believed, it was possible to learn most any skill. She wasn't always as firm with herself as she needed to be about learning things such as preparing palatable food for her crewmates, correctly understanding English idioms, or backing away when someone needed to be cheered up, but for a friend?

...Then again when it came to building things with Lash maybe it wasn't really luck at all. Especially when she was younger than normal. R.I.P. Peter's car.
The wunderkind's voice echoed in the hanger.
"What chu do'n?"

"I am repairing and improving this car for my dear friend Peter," she explained, snatching up a cloth to polish her wrench. "He lost his previous automobile in an accident on the last planet we visited, and the loss bothered him deeply. I wish to make things right for him."
The car's not exactly hot stuff at the moment, but it's getting to be usable. Give it time and some lasers.

"...I'll be right back."
The sound of feet running to a nearby place where she kept her own tools in the hanger, next to zords. The feet running back to her, and dumping what appeared to be a massive tool chest. But it was nothing compared to when when she pulled it all out the drawers twisting and moving until she had an entire workshop studio right next to her.
She put on a pair of goggles over her head and let them snap to her face with a dramatic flare, before taking one of the wrenches and spinning it with her hand idly.
"Well. Let's see what the problem is." She wasn't even asking permission anymore.

Her eyes grew wide as the tools piled higher and higher. Peter did not need this, she thought.
"Lash?"
Was she even listening?

"Wow that's a terrible motor," she said in a disappointed voice, clanking at it. "How could you go fast with that thing?" She looked around at some of the vehicles in the hanger. "Starfire, you're going to be my assistant. This vehicle is going to need a motor transplant if it wants to live! Or drive properly."
Overly dramatic? Maybe.

From one of the nearest cars? Surely there had to be one that would be unmissed by its owner.

"How about this one?" She pushed away some of the dust on the side. "Blue Falcon. Huh. That's kinda lame. Well it is an ugly shade of blue, but it looks pretty modern. I bet it's got a nice compact motor we could fit inside a car." She flicked the back of the goggles again. "What do you say we gut her and see what's inside?"
You know the funny thing about asking is usually you'd wait for the other person's advice, and not just go ahead and open the back to look at the motors.
...all four of them.
"Score."

"Are you certain that we are permitted to do so? It appears to be a perfect vehicle on its own." She held her hand half-out, as if to make a faint attempt at stopping Lash.

"...I don't know what's in there, but look at them! With my genius, I bet I can make Peter's car hover with these motors!"

"It will need extra navigational controls, will it not? And I will test it!" Or...try to. She'd learned to pilot for T-Sub operations back home, but she still wasn't what anyone would term a 'good driver'.

"At this rate, it's going to need an entire panel of navigational controls if I'm involved, tee hee hee!" She looked over at the currently very boring car. "I wonder if it would make that car float too..."
Only one way to find out!
"I think I can make it work! This is going to be awesome, tee hee hee!" A Lash unbored was a scary thing to behold.

How much damage could she do in a few minutes? Whatever she did, Starfire wasn't far. Lash could still hear the sounds of metal being sorted through as parts were assembled---at one point, the alien girl flew back to obtain the large cart on wheels she had used for lugging supplies.

"Oh! If I remove this dumb old window washer container, I can put in some sort of smoke missile launcher system or a laser or..."

She floated up behind the other girl, carefully pushing her hair over her shoulder. "Do you believe he requires those things? It may be useful in attack, but...he will not be able to drive in dirty conditions without clean windows," she reminded, running her finger over the window critically.

The wunderkind looked over to her companion, the goggles already covered in what looked like dark grease stains. Actually there was some on her coat too, which she had also tossed away to work on the car, now simply in her plantsuit.
"I can fix that too!" she beamed, already thinking about it. "I could use these parts to make some sort of cleaning spider that would swing back and forth and squirt out liquid and..."
STOP HER PLEASE.

"How is that more practical than standard wipers? I do not know if he would like all of these additions!"
Useful, maybe. Potential to complicate things? Probably. Dangerous? Most definitely.
