This is not fine art on my planet. [Open, see note]

With enough diligence and care, Starfire firmly believed, it was possible to learn most any skill. She wasn't always as firm with herself as she needed to be about learning things such as preparing palatable food for her crewmates, correctly understanding English idioms, or backing away when someone needed to be cheered up, but for a friend? You where in luck Starfire. Someone liked to build things and her name was Lash and she had just recently been feeling a wee bit better about this whole memory thing now that she had figured it out.

...Then again when it came to building things with Lash maybe it wasn't really luck at all. Especially when she was younger than normal. R.I.P. Peter's car.

The wunderkind's voice echoed in the hanger.

"What chu do'n?"

"Lash," Starfire greeted the friend she hadn't seen in a while, a smile breaking out on her face. Oh, the youth worried her, but it was good to see that she was still out and about.

"I am repairing and improving this car for my dear friend Peter," she explained, snatching up a cloth to polish her wrench. "He lost his previous automobile in an accident on the last planet we visited, and the loss bothered him deeply. I wish to make things right for him."

The car's not exactly hot stuff at the moment, but it's getting to be usable. Give it time and some lasers.

For a moment, there might have been the little bright look in her eyes. A spark. A growing spark. Something about repairing and improving that could have easily warned Starfire it was a dangerous thing to keep Lash around if she valued her friend's car. But it was too late. She was already looking at the vehicle's hood as it invited her to pop it open.

"...I'll be right back."

The sound of feet running to a nearby place where she kept her own tools in the hanger, next to zords. The feet running back to her, and dumping what appeared to be a massive tool chest. But it was nothing compared to when when she pulled it all out the drawers twisting and moving until she had an entire workshop studio right next to her.

She put on a pair of goggles over her head and let them snap to her face with a dramatic flare, before taking one of the wrenches and spinning it with her hand idly.

"Well. Let's see what the problem is." She wasn't even asking permission anymore.

"Are you certain that the problem requires this large of an arsenal to solve?" Starfire asked doubtfully, floating up to study the various tools in awe. She had been under the impression that they just needed some wiring equipment, a wrench, a buffer, and some paint and polish.

Her eyes grew wide as the tools piled higher and higher. Peter did not need this, she thought.

"Lash?"

Was she even listening?

Nope. She was already under the hood, inspecting it.

"Wow that's a terrible motor," she said in a disappointed voice, clanking at it. "How could you go fast with that thing?" She looked around at some of the vehicles in the hanger. "Starfire, you're going to be my assistant. This vehicle is going to need a motor transplant if it wants to live! Or drive properly."

Overly dramatic? Maybe.

"But the manual and my advisors suggested this. Where would we obtain another motor?"

From one of the nearest cars? Surely there had to be one that would be unmissed by its owner.

You mean the strange and ugly blue car Lash was currently looking at right now?

"How about this one?" She pushed away some of the dust on the side. "Blue Falcon. Huh. That's kinda lame. Well it is an ugly shade of blue, but it looks pretty modern. I bet it's got a nice compact motor we could fit inside a car." She flicked the back of the goggles again. "What do you say we gut her and see what's inside?"

You know the funny thing about asking is usually you'd wait for the other person's advice, and not just go ahead and open the back to look at the motors.

...all four of them.

"Score."

Starfire eyed Lash's selection somewhat dubiously. That vehicle certainly looked like it could have been useful in its original form. Why were they stealing from it?

"Are you certain that we are permitted to do so? It appears to be a perfect vehicle on its own." She held her hand half-out, as if to make a faint attempt at stopping Lash.

"Well it hasn't been claimed from all the dust! I doubt they'll wake up any time soon." She pulled out one of the motors...and nearly cooed when she saw it just float in the air. Another motor was ripped out and suddenly, two floating things.

"...I don't know what's in there, but look at them! With my genius, I bet I can make Peter's car hover with these motors!"

A floating motor? Starfire marveled at it, wondering if they were really looking at a floating ship.

"It will need extra navigational controls, will it not? And I will test it!" Or...try to. She'd learned to pilot for T-Sub operations back home, but she still wasn't what anyone would term a 'good driver'.

things_go_boom June 2 2011, 01:43:20 UTC
Lash poked at it, turning one of the motors around.

"At this rate, it's going to need an entire panel of navigational controls if I'm involved, tee hee hee!" She looked over at the currently very boring car. "I wonder if it would make that car float too..."

Only one way to find out!

"I think I can make it work! This is going to be awesome, tee hee hee!" A Lash unbored was a scary thing to behold.

"...then I will obtain the panel," Starfire laughed nervously, floating to get away from the mechanic taking over her project. Truth be told, Lash was starting to scare her. "Please be certain not to hurt yourself or others. I will be right back!"

How much damage could she do in a few minutes? Whatever she did, Starfire wasn't far. Lash could still hear the sounds of metal being sorted through as parts were assembled---at one point, the alien girl flew back to obtain the large cart on wheels she had used for lugging supplies.

By the time she came back, the hood of Peter's car had already been opened bits and pieces scattered everywhere. The old motor had been carelessly tossed aside (there appeared to be a crack on it from the way she had lunged it), and Lash was busy attaching the new motor to the rest of the car's internal system. She also appeared to be talking to her self.

"Oh! If I remove this dumb old window washer container, I can put in some sort of smoke missile launcher system or a laser or..."

"Lash!" Starfire rolled into view a short while later, mourning the lost parts. Someone could have used that! It was careless to waste.

She floated up behind the other girl, carefully pushing her hair over her shoulder. "Do you believe he requires those things? It may be useful in attack, but...he will not be able to drive in dirty conditions without clean windows," she reminded, running her finger over the window critically.

It's okay Starfire. Lash would find a use to them. As scrap metal to be melted, probably.

The wunderkind looked over to her companion, the goggles already covered in what looked like dark grease stains. Actually there was some on her coat too, which she had also tossed away to work on the car, now simply in her plantsuit.

"I can fix that too!" she beamed, already thinking about it. "I could use these parts to make some sort of cleaning spider that would swing back and forth and squirt out liquid and..."

STOP HER PLEASE.

Starfire wondered about this. It would be cool, but...

"How is that more practical than standard wipers? I do not know if he would like all of these additions!"

Useful, maybe. Potential to complicate things? Probably. Dangerous? Most definitely.
