So, I ran over a Care Bear

When driving home the other night, I spotted something on the road too late to avoid it, so I just aimed my car to head over it. I could see it was a stuffed toy on the road, and small enough to not do the underside of my car any harm.

A little further down the road, there was another toy, and then another. When I spotted a fourth, I decided to stop ( Read more... )

I feel mean for having done so, but I laughed.

Once we saw something on the road which we assumed was a bunny that belonged to Lewis. We stopped, picked it up, having no idea how it got there. Got home... and found the original one. It was freakish, because it was a fairly obscure toy.

And then there was the story about Neo accidentally throwing one of his bears out the window on the freeway. Petri actually drove past and got it back for him, and even NOW, the incident where "Neo chucked his teddy out the window" is met with a scowl from him.

I like the idea of contacting the local paper. It's a quirky, interesting story if not anything else.

Another idea: "Found" signs, like the "Lost" signs people put up when their pets go missing? Surely the people in the car will know approximately where the bears went missing?

Some radio stations run a Lost & Found segment.

The public bulletin boards at nearby shopping centres might be useful too.

Sweetness. This made me smile. When I was about 5 I dropped my monkey toy crossing a busy main road near Kedron. A really nice old man braved the traffic to save him. Stuffed toy rescuers rock! =D

I think aphephobia's found sign idea is a good one.

Reminds me of when my cousin (2 at the time) dropped his Mickey Mouse toy out of the car near the Mater Mothers after we took him to see his mum and new brother. We had to go all around the block to get back to the spot to pick it up out of the gutter.

Go with the newspaper and lost & found ideas. Also flyers on supermarket noticeboards.

Stuffed animals are 20 cents each at the op shop... I wouldn't bother.
