My fuckwit of a cat ate something he shouldn't have again. I'm not sure what it was yet; I'll get to see it later today or maybe tomorrow, and then maybe identify it. This time the surgery had to be done late on a Saturday by a specialist, adding to the cost. I'm in the hole about $6000 so far, and hoping for a lack of further complications.

And... why do they always get sick/do things on the weekend? The cat I grew up with as a kid, Champers, always used to get sick on Sunday mornings. When Cully ran through a bush and impaled herself on a stick... it was a Saturday, I think... and I remember a lot of Yvaine's medical dramas went down on the weekend, too.
Here's sending kitty good wishes and hoping that it doesn't end up getting more complicated and expensive. As someone who shelled out nearly $200 for her bird earlier in the week, and thought that was nasty... I'm thinking of you.

Got pet insurance? I wonder if they have higher premiums for animals that have a past history of stupidity.

Nope. Firstly, repeated ingestion of foreign bodies = pica = pre-existing (psychological/behavioural) condition = generally not covered. Secondly, he's now nearly 10 years old, which means he is ineligible for many policies, and the ones he would be eligible for often don't cover illness (which may or may not include pica - it's debatable). So even if I insured him, I'd probably wind up having to take the insurer to court to get any significant amounts back.
