Cable vs. DSL

Well, my internet is working again but for how long is anyone's guess. I am seriously considering ditching Earthlin DSL. The service has been awful this summer. Unfortunately, where I live it looks like my only viable option is cable internet from Cox. I can get their second fastest connection for about what I'm paying for Earthlink. My ( Read more... )

We have Cox (and we'll skip the obvious jokes) and we've been very pleased. Having your cable TV jack in the living room isn't an issue. When they come to do the installation, they will install your PC jack(s) anywhere you want it/them.

Cable internet beats DSL hands down, IMHO. Our download speeds are usually very good. We only experience outages about three times a year. When it does go down, it's for several hours, though. It's never a problem in our home, it's always an area outage.

Thanks so much for your comment. It's reassuring. I am probably going to look into getting it installed after the holiday. My DSL has disconnected THREE times since they "fixed" it tonight!

I'm on cable, but I doubt my experience of it will be helpful considering the different countries issue. ;)

Seconding the first comment above. We've always had cable service here through Cox, and overall its very reliable. If there's an outage it's usually an area outage, and if it isn't I've never had to do more than a 15 minute phone call to get it back online. We do experience some slowdown once in a while here, but I'm not sure if that's due to downloads, busy network, etc. It usually doesn't last for long.

Thanks. I'll probably give them a call later this week. My DSL has disconnected at least twice today. :-P
