Interesting problem that a standard SF con doesn't really have. However, if your con has an additional focus, it may need to ensure that a GoH is aligned with that. While whether a GoH is appropriate as an author or actor or whatever is usually pretty obvious, determining whether that individual is appropriately aligned to a particular mindset of social issues isn't going to be nearly as obvious. And once the decision is made, undoing it is going to upset some attendees, partly because the committee is seen to have a responsibility to get it right in the first place.
Exactly. I'm sure it wasn't a decision taken lightly. And it's not the first time EM has sparked this kind of debate, so the Con comittee should have known what they were going to get!
