++++++O great internet, please grant me answer to the questions that plague me in life. Who is better off? Peter Parker for whom the universe seems to be a great machine designed to torment him, or Samurai Jack, for whom the universe really is a great machine designed to torment him?

I'd say Peter Parker, as he occaisonally gets to go out for a burger and fries. I get the feeling Samurai Jack hasn't seen a good sushi joint in a long time. ;)

but... Samari has a clean conscious. Peter is always tomented emotionally by feelings of inadiquacy and fear for his loved ones. Jack has the serenity of the uncarved block. And has yet to find a problem that cannot be resolved by the suitable application of magic sword.

That, and I'd rather have the basket hat and slippers and robe than the crotch-riding-up red underoos.

I seem to remember something about his girl getting amnesia and melting into a puddle of water. Could be hard on Parker's sanity.

_____ I was looking for the more mental aspects of this issue. Sure both of them get more than their fair share of physical pounding by foes they're never seen before but somehow have a personal grudge against them, and that some invisible force must be healing them between issues/episodes. But I think they suffer more from the thought that they could have done a better job of arresting the evils they fight. Parker has the honor of being the nephew of the only person in the Marvel universe that can't come back from the dead, and it's all Pete's fault. Jack believes the suffering of the entire world could have been averted hundreds or thousands of years ago.
_____ In terms of physical punishment, I give all the pain killers to Wolverine.

Wolvie EXISTS to be hurt. I mean... his super-power is super healing... you know that's just asking for a pounding. Petey and Jack, we have to tred the line of believability with the audience...

Just 'cause he heals it doesn't mean it doesn't hurt when it happens.

I think jack's got the better deal. None of this alter-ego stuff, none of the teen-angst crap. While the world may be a machine dedigned to crush him, he at least gets a few handfuls of sand to toss in the gears. Spider-Dweeb just gets messed with.

___Good points. Jack does indeed have that unreachable star that will end his torment. Not only can Peter not escape, but if Peter gives up, May and MJ pay for it. Whether that's better than going it alone though, I don't know.
