I'll bite. How does a butterkeep work?

It works by sealing the butter up with water. As for saving the butter from the cat, it works because with the butter all closed up in a heavy-ish bit of ceramic, she can't get at it. Since my last butterkeep broke, I'd been trying to keep my butter soft by stashing it in the (cold) toaster oven, but Edward discovered how to open that gadget and I discovered her on more than one occasion licking her chops clean of the last taste of the butter I'd been trying to keep soft for toast. XD
