Know this:

You are not everything you wish yourself to be, nor are you everything your bleakest assessments of your life and progress have led you to believe you have become. You are something separate and apart from these two extremes. You are something in between.

You have a way of addressing the reader so directly that when I read this, the first thing I felt was relief at the opening sentence. Because it's almost like confessing or admitting that nobody is exactly everything that they wanted to be. Everyone imagines themselves being better, everyone has wishes or things they would change about themselves, no matter who they are. And that's what makes it okay. And it also addresses that no one is as horrid as they may have half-convinced themselves to believe they are. it's, in much fewer words, letting go and accepting all our flaws and strengths. And coming to terms with being in between.

this entry cut through me so clearly and struck me so hard, the song I was writing shifted gears towards it. And I'm borrowing yr words for a refrain, if you don't mind. Which of course means I'll have to let you hear it sometime.

If I hadn't decided to randomly check in on livejournal.com then I guess I wouldn't have seen this comment for a long time. I mean, consarn it, I thought livejournal used to send me emails when you left me a comment! I guess they're not that helpful anymore.

But, at any rate, A) I'm glad that i DID get to read what you had to say and B) I'm happy that it had an impact. And yes, I'm relieved, too...I don't think anyone should have to go through life convinced that their worst anxieties about themselves are true. Given how neurotic we all are, how could they be true? Don't we deserve a little something to temper our neuroses every once in a while? ;-)
