Just Typical...

Jobs are like busses, huh? You wait ages for one and then two show up at the same time. This has put me in a bit of an awkward position. As I said before, I contacted IRC Ethiopia and they seemed up for it, and I’m a hair’s breadth away from being officially offered it. However this evening I got told that I could be put in a pool for a position ( Read more... )

I would contact IRC and tell them how things stand. Try to be as honest as possible, and explain that something else that wasn't working out might well do so, and that if you are offered the the other placement before the Ethiopia position is a solid thing, you're likely to take it.

As soon as you get one, you can tell the other that you're no longer available for x amount of time. Being put in a pool isn't the same as a solid job to go to. It could still take time to get something, so if the Ethiopia thing works out you should take it up. Don't rule it out at this point. In the meantime, if you do get the Congo thing first, at least you'll have prepared IRC for the possibility.

Well it's a bit late. I need another 24 hours and I'll convince myself to go to Ethiopia. The MSF letter says "no promises, but we'll put you forward". It also says that the training I'd need beforehand will be late October, so when this job will start is anybody's guess. I re-re-re-re-re-read it and it does mention that its worth getting the training under my belt so I'm ready to go "even if I go away with another NGO". So I just need to get over the fact that I *might* *possibly* *conceivably* be screwing myself in the eye-socket with MSF and go for it with IRC. Plus I really don't want IRC to even think I could have been flaky.

thanks for the input though... is there still a postal strike in the UK?
