In Leonard Cohen's song Famous Blue Raincoat, there's a line that a haunts me.

My musical history is rooted in country and golden oldies.  I remember watching Barry Manilow and disco filled episodes of American Bandstand, but in the day to day living mom listened to 1950's rock and roll and dad listened to the old country greats. So I have a soft spot in my heart for rockabilly.  There is something special about those people ( Read more... )

This is the fourth Deer Tick show that I've gone to.  feckalyn got me hooked early in our relationship.  The band was created and is driven by the lead singer John McCauley.   There's a lot of talent and passion there.  If he could focus just a little bit more they're going to be huge.

I have been re-reading Warren Ellis's Bad Signal.  This book is a compilation of a journal/email blasts that he did back in 2002.  Basically, he would do a brain dump of whatever he was working on or working out in his writing process and comment on some of it then blast it out to an email list.  I have several of these types of books by him.  What ( Read more... )
