Epilogue

There were several large suitcases in the living room and Jaejoong couldn’t stop sighing while looking at those and Moonbin who were passing by, checking each suitcase to make sure that he didn’t miss a thing. He sunk further into the comfortable couch.

Again, he let out a deep sigh… and that made Moonbin stop on his track and looked at him in annoyance.

“Dad, seriously, stop doing that?”

He gave him an innocent look, “Stop doing what?”

“That! Those sighing! And stop following my every move, will you. I’m not a child anymore.”

“You still are for me!”

“Daddy, please!!”

And that lured another man out to the living room, “What’s with all the commotion early in the morning? And young man, aren’t you supposed to go see your Gappa and Gamma before we leave?”

“I am, but-“ he threw his hands in desperation. “But Daddy really annoys me with his sighing every single time I showed up to check on my stuff!”

“Well, I can’t help it! My baby is leaving and I won’t be seeing you for the next- well, 3 months!”the said Dad defended himself in front of his son.

“Dad, I’m 18 now not 8! And I’m leaving for college, for goodness sake! Why are you acting as if I’m leaving you to- to some battle out there? And- and! You said it yourself, you and Appa and Min Yong are coming over to see me in another 3 months!” He was close to whining now.

“ But you’re never away for more than a week except for that summer camp when you were in 10, and then that-“

“Jaejoong, quit it! Binnie, go to the mansion or we’ll all be late. Changmin-hyung and JiHye-noona are ready to leave with Yeon Hee and Na Young.”

Moonbin widened his eyes, “You’re ALL coming the airport? Oh come on, that’s embarassing! Appaaaaaaaa!”

“Binnie!” A stern look from Yunho and the teenager gave up. He stomped his way to the front door and left to see his grandparent at the main house and to pick up his sister who insisted to see him off at the airport. Apparently his Uncle, Aunt and dear cousins thought the same thing.

As soon as Binnies was out the door, Yunho redirected his gaze to his partner, “And you, Mr. Jung! Stop acting like a kid! Your son will only be gone for 5 years, and we could always go visit him when we want to.”

“I know, but still…” Jaejoong now was lying down on completely on the couch, a pout on his face. He’s not young anymore but that pout still managed to amused Yunho to no end.

Yunho chuckled as he approached the man and laid down beside him.

“Yunhoooo, it’s hot. Go sit somewhere else and leave me in peace will you! Life father like son, none of you will ever leave me alone..” he was complaining but Yunho knew that he didn’t mean it.

“Oh, you were just showing Binnie how much you didn’t want him to go and now you’re saying we never leave you alone. Fine! Maybe I should just go to the US to live with him, then maybe then you’ll start missing me too!” He made a move as if to stand up and leave Jaejoong on the couch but the other man turned around and stopped him.

“No! Don’t leave! I’m sorry! I was-…” another sigh, “yeah, I know that I annoyed him.”

They were lying facing each other now and Yunho held him close on the hip.

“You’re being unfair to him. You know that he has to go. Let him grow up.”

“Yeah…” he whispered softly while playing with Yunho’s hem’s button. “But once he’s finished with college then I won’t be able to treat him like a child anymore, will I?” he looked up to his spouse. “He’ll start working for the firm under Min… then he’ll get married, then… aaarggh!” he groaned, “I miss my baby already!”

Yunho smiled, “He’s always be your baby. Didn’t he promise you that?”

And Jaejoong smiled, remembering that day. “He did.”

“And you still have Min Young around… She’s not going anywhere…” he caressed the other’s face with his thumb.

“She won’t… “

“So stop whining and annoying him. You know him better, he’ll miss you too but he’s playing tough and trying not to show it. Besides…” he gave him the look that still send shivers down his spine after all those years, “It also means that we’ll have more time together to play around the house since Min Young will be busy painting in her studio.” He whispered in his ear which turned his face red like a tomato.

True… even though they’ve been together for another ten years now, Jaejoong still felt Yunho’s every touch and kiss like the first.

Since they couldn’t get married in Korea, Appa Jung adopted Jaejoong into the family so officialy he had been a Jung for 10 years. They were tempted to be married in the US like Moonbin suggested, but in the end they thought it didn’t matter anymore. They’re family and that’s enough for them and the children, no one can deny it if looking at their extremely close relationship. Yunho moved in and they lived as a complete family eversince.

At first Moonbin called him Appa too, which confused both men when he called it out. Which Appa? But Min Young came up with a better idea, one day after a little quarell in which they couldn’t decide which Appa that Binnie asked to pick him up that morning. Min Young giggled and pointed out at Jaejoong, ‘Daddy!’ Ever since that moment, they agreed that there shouldn’t be 2 Appas in the house. Daddy it was for Jaejoong. Min Young and her English saved the household once again.

It wasn’t always sugar and sweet… As he grew older, Moonbin also matured faster than the average boys his age. At the age of 16, he already showed interest in the family business. So for the past 2 years he studied hard to be accepted into a good University. And he’s starting his freshman year at Stanford this summer. Being on top of his class all year round really had its own advantage. And he had a mind of his own. When he’s determined to do something that he thought would help him achieving his goal, he wouldn’t listen to what his parents say and his arguments with Jaejooing increased. But Yunho was always ready to step in the middle. And they would make up again.

As for Min Young, the wheelchair didn’t stop her from going here and there between the main house and their own. She’s painting now. Apparenly she was affected with Binnie’s habit of drawing for her when she was little. Though her brother had long left that hobby, she only got more serious in it. Last year after her 15th birthday, her grandfather held a little exhibition for her at their hotel. Surprisingly, many people praised her paintings and said that they could feel her outgoing personality through her colorful works. 3 months after that Jaejoong published a serial of her works into postcards and sold them to raise funds for the foundation. It was a hit!

Since then, she spent most of her time in a studio that her grandfather built for her in the main house. She was the one who chose to have it there because ‘Gappa has better eyes on paintings than Appa and Daddy.’ Yup, she also had a mind of her own. But still, she and Moonbin were as close as when they were little, almost like twin. One can always sense the other’s feelings and most of the time they didn’t need to speak to read each other’s mind. Jaejoong found it hard to explain to her that she was going to be separated for a while from her brother, but when he did, she told him, ‘OK. I can go visit him sometime. Min Young wants to paint Binnie Oppa’s University too.’ That’s all. No crying, no whining. It seemed that he’s the only one doing that.

Jaejoong closed his eyes, enjoying every bit of Yunho’s lips on his… God, he’s never satisfied with Yunho’s touch, he always yearned for more. It scares him sometimes that even in their age their sexual activity doesn’t decrease. They still have the passion for each other… every single day, they couldn’t leave each other without kisses deeply engraved inside their heart.

They were still kissing on the couch when the front foor was opened.

“Hyung, are we ready to lea- Oh God! JiHye covered Na Young’s eyes!” He shouted as he covered his 12 year old’s eyes with his own hands. “Hyung! Would you qui- ah, never mind! Just… not now OK! My girls are here.” Changmin shot them a glare.

Jaejoong hid his blushing face on Yunho’s chest while the other man chuckled and called out, “Min, be nice. And hello girls!”

The whole Shims now were inside, both Jaejoong and Yunho stood up from the couch. Jaejoong still couldn’t hide his embarassement as he hugged each girl lovingly.

JiHye laughed, “Really Oppa, I’m still amazed at your being lovey dovey all the time, you’re already on your fourties you know!”

Yunho snorted, “Says you, who came to me last week screaming panic ‘Oh my God Oppa, I think I’m pregnant again!’” JiHye’s face turned red, “yeah, right! You’re lucky that it wasn’t true.”

“Hyung! Helloooo, we have children here!”

“I can see that, hi Yeon Hee, Na Young… Come and give Yun-ahjussi a kiss!” The girls squeeled happily and ran to him.

Na Young held his waist and asked him, “Where’s Min Young Unnie?”

Just like magic, Min Young came rolling down her wheelchair through the front door, Moonbin in tow. He looked surprised to see everyone in his house already. “Min-hyung, Noona, you’re early”

“Well, yeah… thought you might need help with the baggage and better to have more time in the airport. Ready? Have you said goodbye to your grandparents?” Changmin hugged his teenage nephew.

“I have. They said they’ll visit me during winter but I promised to call Gamma everyday. So yeah… I’m good to go.”

JiHye smiled at him, “And I bet your Gamma and Gappa handled your going away better than someone here.” She glanced at Jaejoong, trying to tease him. But the man kept silent. JiHye shot a questioning look at Moonbin who shrugged his shoulders.

“Let’s go then,” Yunho clapped his hand. “Min, all the baggage goes the our van. And I don’t know if the kids want to be separated but I guess they all could go with yours?”

As everyone went out with Yunho & Changmin arranging the luggage arrangement and JiHye with the children, Jaejoong was left behind to lock up.

He swept his gaze around the house, thinking how lonely it would be when they return later. He took a deep breath and turned around but he was surprised to see Moonbin behind him.

“Oh gosh, you gave me a fright! Why are you still here? Go help your father.”

The kid suddenly embraced him. And for a while no words were spoken between, just enjoying each other’s presence while they can.

“Dad, I’m sorry for being so harsh on you this morning.”

“That’s… fine… I’m sorry too. Your Appa said I’m too childish. I guess I’m just not used of not having your around.” They let go of each other.

“Go… and get good grades. Don’t forget to call your sister too everyday, she’ll miss you. We’ll see you soon.” Jaejoong said as he stroked the kid’s cheek.

“Dad… I love you.”

Jaejoong was stunned.

“I love you. And thank you for being there for me all these years. I couldn’t’ve asked for a better set of parents. Thank you for being patient with me. Thank you for understanding me. And most of all, thank you for loving me. Thank you for being my Daddy.”

That was the last straw before Jaejoong threw himself to hug his son in tears. This time the role was switched. He was the sobbing mess and the teenager was the one rubbing his back, consoling him and telling that everything will be alright.

After awhile Yunho’s shout was heard from outside, “Binnie, Jae! What you’re doing in there? Come on, you don’t wanna be late for your flight, young man!”

Both men groaned as they separated themselves from the embrace.

“Looks like he’s the only who won’t miss me!” Moonbin complained as he put on his shoes.

Jaejoong laughed, “Oh, if you only knew! He’s pretending in front of you and everyone else!”

“I know.” He chuckled. “He’ll be troubles in the airport later. Always at the last minute.”

“Well, you know your Appa. Let’s go! “ And Moonbin ran to the van where his sister and cousins were.

Jaejoong looked around the house… at every pictures on the walls, on the dressers… every evident of the family living for more than 10 years… They’re all his dreams came true.

And he looked at Soon Mi and Moonbin’s picture hanging on the wall above the TV set, next to their family pictures. Soon Mi looked happy, holding 6 month old Moonbin in her arms, like they owned the future. It was a picture that his son treasured cause he said, ‘That was the only picture where Umma looked happy being with me.’

It’s been a long and painful experience to have what he has right now. When he looked at his spouse and children, he could never imagine life without them. What a loss it would be if they hadn’t been around. Everytime he remembered the past he still couldn’t find a better way to make things right. He wouldn’t change a single thing.

Only now that he could see the real meaning behind his parents words. No matter how painful or bad things may get, they always happened for a reason. Yunho had been his reason twenty years ago, but Soon Mi had gifted him with a better reason today. The children.

So Jaejoong smiled as he blew kisses towards both pictures and he whispered… “Thank you…”

He closed the door and locked it. As he turned around he couldn’t help not to grin at the view in front of him. ‘My family.’
