~ Prologue ~

The news was like a thunder in his ear. And he began to ask so many “why”.

Why me?

Why now?

Why not?

He has always been the healthiest person in the family, he’s taking care of himself well, he’s taking care of his husband and their only Son. He has planned a peaceful retirement: a house by the lake, to see his son’s wedding, watching his future grandchildren playing at the park and the most anticipated would be for being able to hold hands with his beloved husband for the rest of his life. And he always thought that they’re so close to fulfill them all.

And now all hopes seem lost. It’s true that if people see him now they won’t believe that there’s something actually wrong with him. He still has the body that his husband fell in lust with and the face that made him fall at first sight. But he knew what the word means… he knew the underlying message the doctor gave him when he said: “I suggest that you start your radiation soon.” And what he meant soon was that it should’ve been done yesterday.

Now he has to come home where his beloved are waiting, he must put up a face that won’t set any alarm within his husband. He was always the one his family depended on, he’s the strong one. He’s a bit relieved that he had insisted to go see the doctor by himself, otherwise he wouldn’t have had time to think things over, to calm down… cause he would have had a freaking panic husband by now.

After a while the storm had calmed down inside him he tried to take a deep breath, inhaled… exhaled… He must be careful with his words. He can do this… or maybe he can’t. He still needs to share the burden with someone… anyone… And perhaps the best one for him to tell the truth would be his son, he knows he has a better conscience than his husband. If it’s his son, he won’t freak out… he raised him well, he’s stronger than his Daddy, sometimes he thought that he’s more mature than him. Yeah, he’s going to be alright.

He can’t sit still… he should’ve gone to see the doctor with him, he should’ve insisted. Though he wished that it’s not something to be alarmed of, he couldn’t disregard the fact of his husband’s difficulty to urinate, or the blood that came out with it. He didn’t change much, but he got tired so easily lately no matter how well he pretended that he was fine with everything.

He didn’t stop praying last night, begging god that it’s just something that will pass with a regular medicine for awhile. Please, let us grow old together to see our son and our future grandchildren!  We’ve only been together for 20 years, there’s still so much ahead of us. And our son just started college… we haven’t even had the fun of teasing him on his first date. Please let me do more for him and spend more time with him.

Oh God, should’ve gone with him!

Dad’s been telling Daddy that he’s fine, but once, just once that he told him it’s a bit painful. And Dad never admitted that he was hurt before, even when he got stitches for slipping on the garden while cleaning up the snow that covered up the bushes. Never. So it must have been really hurt.

It’s a good thing that Daddy didn’t go with him. If the result is good, he would be overjoyed. If the result is not what he- I mean, what everyone’s expecting, then he would be a wreck. It really is a good thing that he’s not going. He’s been pacing back and forth in the living room, kept glancing at the door though they both didn’t hear the sound of Dad’s vehicle yet, he kept calling Uncle Min and drive him nuts with his worry (he knows his uncle well).

He’s mixed feeling. He was much closer to his Dad when he was little. Playing catch ball, going fishing, and even shopping together cause Dad would let him pick whatever he wanted while Daddy would pick what he thought looked good on him even though he hated it. But as he grew older, the distance between them also grew. Dad’s a man’s man, and he expected him to be like him. Well, he’s not. Yes, he admired him, if people ask him who is his role model it would be Dad. But he’s not as strong as Dad, he’s not as tough as Dad, he has ‘delicate heart’ like Daddy always say, the trait that resembled him the most. So really… he hoped there’s nothing wrong with him cause he wouldn’t know how to react to his news if it’s- again, if it’s the opposite of everyone’s expectation.

Geesh, God… please please please let him be home with a good news.

A/N:
Hello, I'm back with a new fic. Before you read further this is going to be a mini series, each part is not going to be long but trust me when I say that I put my all into writing this, all explanation will come at the end of the fic. Since each part is much shorter than the usual chapter that I wrote (thus the tile in each part instead of calling it a chapter), updates may be posted more frequently and regularly. But no worries, will do my best to update PPF by turns with this one. I hope you enjoy it. Thanks!
