Am In Multicolour monkeys today. One of my purple stripey lovelies is in the quantum sockplace :-(. I don't do shopsocks anymore, so purple socks may take a wee while, but in principle I am up for it!
Do purple mix socks count? I've just matched up some purple and pink flashy Christmas present LL with the Leyburn pattern... I really hope my stripey sock turns up. I suspect it's probably unter mein bett, tanzing with the wollmeuse...
What a fantastic idea, thank you. I shall be joining in with enthusiasm, as soon as I can find some purple socks. In the meantime, I will wear the ones with purple toes and heels on Fridays.
One of my black-and-yellow striped pairs is hiding in the quantum sockplace (both of them, for once) - my other pair are badly made kneelength, and fall down distractingly... Yes, I do own sock garters. I am just lazy.
I am wearing "nude" colored nylons (or some variation on that color) and white athletic socks over those, because it is damned cold out.
I do not often wear socks on Fridays, because I generally wear skirts to work, and I wear nylons with my skirts. The shoes I wear with my skirts are not really spacious enough for socks. We are not allowed to go barelegged to work until summer, and I don't generally like to wear socks over my nylons, unless it is damned cold out.
I only own one pair of purple socks. They are the first pair of socks I ever knit, and I am not pleased with them. I did not realize that socks are better knit at a smaller gauge than a sweater with the same yarn, so my socks are very loose feeling. I don't mind them being slouchy over the leg, but it doesn't work so well with the feet.
I am, however, knitting a pair of purple legwarmers, which I don't think I'll mind wearing over nylons as much as I do socks, because they won't interfere with my shoes.
Do I correctly recall that 'tights' is another of those trans-Atlantic language differences? Unless your nylons come in two separate bits and only cover your legs (in which case they'd be stockings or pop-socks, depending how tall they are), I'd call them tights.
Yes, I believe it is. Nylons and pantyhose are pretty much the same thing, and they are relatively lightweight, skin-toned all-in-one things that are generally not patterned. Tights are all-in-one things that are colored (not skin-tone color), are sometimes heavier, and can certainly be patterned (either in stich or color or both). Knee-highs are like nylons/pantyhose, except that they are only knee-high (or sometimes not that high). Trouser socks are like tights (not skin-tone, can be patterned), but are only knee-high (or sometimes not that high). And while tights can be made of a sock-like material, trouser socks are made of a pantyhose-like material only. Otherwise, they're just socks, no matter how fancy they are

Although they're still as high as non-elasticized stockings.
