I thought it was also really good, but again, also with the whiteness. Though I was thinking it was the beard that did it for you. :)
It's amazing how a cover can change a song though. Like the White Stripes song that got coved by that Joss Stone girl- horrible, absolutely horrible. But the original was so, so good.
speaking of beards, there's a myspace group called ye old mustachiola and beardamatorium to which you'd be a valuable contributing member. a friend of mine in columbus started it. click here for dudes w/ sweet beards
To put it bluntly, yes, it's good. The recording quality is really quite good under the circumstances, too.
But that said, I'm not sure the song is quite the right one for the style you are using, and it still sounds like you need to find your own style. It does sound professional, but it sounds like too many other professionals who are doing accoustic guitar-driven music right now, perhaps.
I would consider singing and playing in a rawer, more simply-voiced style. Compare what you're performing with Nick Drake, for example. Very simple and clean sounding, but all the more powerful for it. Same thing could be said today about bands like Red House Painters... very simple singing styles often make for more powerful songs.
aw, damn. I'm flattered. -but that's not me. I couldn't sing my way out of a paper bag as they say.
My comment was about a totaly "white" guy covering a hip-hop classic. I was looking for some affirmation that although I'm totaly white and appreciate the version said white boy is doing, that it is actually a good cover of a hip-hop song for a white guy. -kinda like Dynamite Hack's "boyz in the Hood."
