Flynn/Jordan, Jordan on the Grid anonymous July 23 2011, 12:48:51 UTC
I've seen a number of fics involving Flynn going to the grid after Jordan dies, generally to be sad with his favorite programs, distract himself, or angst about how he'd wanted to show her this place eventually ( ... )

“Through a Diamond Sky”
Author: Allronix
Rating: PG-13 (language, violence)
Prompt: http://tronkinkmeme.livejournal.com/5506.html?thread=4696706#t4696706 (Jordan Canas sees the Grid)

Summary: Jordan Canas knew her husband was carrying on something behind her back. What she hadn't bargained on was just what it was or how dangerous it could be.

She could put two and two together. Boot camp had a tendency to cut down on your ability to tolerate equivocal statements. And after her fellow GI of a first husband got stone busted outside a “massage parlor” just off-base, there was no way in hell Jordan Canas was going to put up with that kind of bullshit a second time. First round was nightmare enough, and she earned her maiden name back after all that.

She thought Kevin was a different animal - computer company genius by day, but just a big kid screwing around around in an arcade by night - different enough to flirt up a storm over Master Blaster, ( ... )

That board meeting was a level of hell Dante hadn't managed to invent. Next quarter's earnings, they said. The Atari crash of 1983 has rendered computer games passe, they said.Blah. Blah. Blah. Yeah, sticking it to Dillinger was a great idea. Taking over Dillinger's job? Not such a good idea. The only reasons he took it was because Walter needed someone he trusted in the position ( ... )

Loving this so far. Jordan is a story element in the movie, not a character, and fic that fixes this to do her justice makes this anon happy. Your version seems to have very little patience for Flynn as opposed to the way she was portrayed in Betrayal, but then the canon kills her before we can see her dealing with a mercurial child all on her own, so... intrigued to see where this goes next. Jordan smash Clu?

Infatuation and pregnancy hormones can cover quite a bit. It's after those start wearing off that the questions start. Besides, I had this mental image of her being an aggressive type, as Sam's more of a thrill seeker than his dad ever was. Calculating the timeline also added up to an extremely short courtship, which would make sense if our dear Flynn found a lady with just as much "caution be damned" as he had. She would also need to be a certain level of tough and independent just to tolerate his adult ADHD tendencies, too.

The explanation of ex-military? Well, most of my friends are veterans. Plus, the late 70's and early 80's was when the services were really pushing the idea of the GI Bill for college funding. Paying the way through a tough course of study like architecture by selling one's soul to Uncle Sam for a few years isn't uncommon.

Jordan didn't know what hit her. The dingy arcade basement winked out of existence and this candy-colored kaleidoscope of patterns and shapes danced before her eyes for a small eternity - delicate lines and shapes not found in nature passed in front of her. It was beautiful, terrifying, and completely brain-shattering all at once. Finally, the whole thing went to bright white light as she found her body seeming to piece itself back together. Ungracefully, she stumbled a few steps and fell flat on her face. She hadn't felt this bad since she went two rounds on the roller coaster while drunk.

“This isn't Flynn.” The voice was male, and sounded vaguely like Alan, but had a slight electronic distortion. “But I'm not detecting any damaged code or malfunction.”

Says you.“He was working with Ophelia on a correction mechanism so that another User could be brought in the Grid with him.” The other voice was female, and had that same bizarre distortion. What kind of crazy Twilight Zone was this place ( ... )

Okay! I was betting it was that button but I wanted to make sure first; the last time I guessed at clicking a button I wound up having to take my computer to best buy so geek squad could tango (heh!) with one of abraxas' virus buddies...

Jarvis led Jordan into a large, round room, still of the same inorganic, minimalist style. She started mentally calculating improvements she would make to the style. There was a difference between minimalist and being too sparse ( ... )

...And my infinitely late commentheap starts.

This. Is. Excellent. :D So many things. I love your characterizations. Jordan, on the right warpath for all the wrong reasons. Flynn with his self-indulgent complaints about how hard he has it... and the genuine desire to make things better, but balanced against way too much laziness and assumption that in the end, 'everything's fine'. Not-evil!Jarvis made me grin so much-and promptly facepalm when he started hitting on her. Definitely Jarvis.

Jordan's perspective is just beautiful, though. Her immediate sympathy for Tron and Yori-just on the basis that yep, they were putting up with Flynn too. Her internal monologue-"someone's got a fetish". XD Oh, and her utterly straightforward direct approach to things. She's not looking around all hesitant and unsure-she's calculating the improvements "she would make to the style". Not "could" make. Would. :) Yay, architectness.

The five minutes seemed to pass in Grid time. It took Kevin a full minute just to verify Jordan was in the system at all. Unfortunately, he had no clue if she arrived intact, safe, or if she was even...

Don't think it.

Heart pounding, palms sweating, stomach knotted, he welcomed and dreaded the kiss of the laser beam and stumbled into the Tower's receiving area. Already, Clu was waiting, hands behind back. His digital avatar was pre-programmed to come to the Tower upon seeing the beam.

“Where is she?” Kevin stammered. “She okay? Is...”

“Jordan arrived safely. She's over in the reception room with Yori. You really should have warned us beforehand.”

“Didn't have time. She stepped into the beam by accident.”

“Well, while our illustrious Tower Guardian is wasting her resources briefing the lost User, you grace us with your presence once a cycle, only to play around and then vanish...”

Kevin pinched the bridge of his nose. Inventive, brilliant, snarky, smug...Yup. Clu had all of his better traits, and most of his worst.
Look at it ( ... )
