It's not just that Bond himself is the most irritating, pseudo-cool, every middle-aged man's dream character ever created I think you hit the nail on the head there! that's the reason why I hate action films so much, in particular those cringeworthy one-liners they say after they've just shot someone, it's pathetic. the only one I like is indiana jones, purely for all the tomb curses and completelyunrealistic traps! how is your studying and everything going?
It's very true. I think at one point I actually stared roung incredulously at the people laughing. He's just NOT cool; the way he's just hard as marble for no good reason, and wow, he doesn't freak out when there are guns around. And then it's the fact they try to make him vulnerable but underdevelop it so it's just random. *sigh*
It's not. But thank you for asking! I'm just focusing on the interviews now; making notes on books and my thoughts. etc. etc.
Also, hopefully you should have a letter in the post soon. Sorry it's taking so long. ♥
oh well, I guess boys need to feel manly every once in a while, even if it is in their imaginations. :( well your more than capable (even if you have a few traumas) I don't doubt that, less deserving people seem to manage perfectly fine in the end - I just hope you don't let yourself get too down! oh don't worry! you know I'm useless when it comes to mail/time/organisation/memory! =D
Most definately in their imaginations. The majority of the audience was sadly middle-aged men, and their wives. *sigh* I'm just going to try my best to be positive and do as much as I can and leave it at that.
Action movies are more or less the only type of movie I do like.
That said, I hate most action movies, and unlike you, I don't care about offending feelings.
Nearly all movies in any genre are made by the same formula; action is no exception. I do think that some scenes are interesting to look at... but since 90% of all action movies contain similar scenes, it becomes redundant; therefore uninteresting, after awhile.
Anything involving car chases I tend to stay far away from, and if I wanted to see an explosion I would watch the world news.
Personally, I want to see an androgynous-appearing female villain who, with complete control over [wherever], has decided to eliminate all vehicles and ends up scorching the handsome hero’s face. In other words, I definitely agree regarding the slutty female and omnipotent male-pretending-to-be-badass stereotypes.
Nearly all movies in any genre are made by the same formula; action is no exception. Very true. And action is one of the few genres that does nothing to try and alter or think past the formula, and to be fair, why should they? Their target audience is perfectly satisfied with what they get ever time they go to the cinema.
I'm glad you agree. And it's so depressing. The second they has their little tete-a-tete on the train, I whispered to Louisa "I bet you'll they'll end up in love, not just in bed together". It's just so predicatable, and the fact that later he claimed "She stripped all his armour". I really hope she had just been a double agent intent on power or money, or something other than love. (I also loved that they described her clothing as masculine, and the only difference from a normal suit was that it was cut low in front
( ... )
Well, I can't dissect that particular movie that well since I tend to judge movies by the commercials/trailers and decided that one is not something I'll ever see... I've actually only seen half of a James Bond movie in my life, to be honest.
I do, however, believe it's a little unfair to single action out as "one of the few genres that does nothing to try and alter or think past the formula"... How many romance movies involve one of the characters being lost in the world and the other carrying him/her off their feet to discover paradise on earth? I can't stand most movies, regardless of the genre, for this reason; it's as if seeing one of them equals seeing them are. Also, there are some action movies which have more of a plot… Batman Begins, per example. That's technically action, although I'm unsure how much of it was taken directly from the comics…
when Bond invariably tries to seduce her, tells him to shove it up his arse and beats the crap out of him
Ah, that's why I said one of! It's interesting that sterotypical male and female films (action and romance) are the two most predictable genres. Of course there are exceptions but I've yet to see a film of the predominantly action genre which was engaging on more than a "OMG EXPLOZON!" level. Of course, comic books adaptations are exceptions (because spiderman is the greatness) as well as martial arts films (if that counts?) but things like James Bond, The Bourne Identitiy, 51st State etc just have no appeal for me.
Although I do agree with you that it's true of most generes of film. That's why I find it hard to pick a favourite genre of film; I can only pick out individual films which I've really enjoyed.
I could tell from the previews that that movie was gonna suck. AH! You're like me! I'm the worst person to go to a film with because a)I'll know before I get there whether or not I'll like it and b)I will critique the crap out of it.
And the product placement is SO cheap. It's not only the actual allusion to the watches in the script, it's the fact that the directors purposely framed so many shots so that they could get the logo in. And the fact they all used stupid bricky Sony Ericson phones made me laugh; I think they just incorporated the mobile technology into everything just to get more money. *sigh*
haha, fair enough, I suppose. But as far as (recent) Bond movies (and action films for that matter) go, Casino Royale was pretty good. I had trouble believing that if it really were some of his first assignments, that he'd find it that easy (emotionally) to disconnect
( ... )
I do realise that came across as bitchy, but I don't mean it as any reflection on you. If that makes any sense at all, which I'm sure it doesn't. And it makes for ranty comments and posts, both of which are very good.
But any rate, since you're slightly more partial; thoughts on Daniel Craig? Did you think he was actually attractive?

He's... not unattractive. I tend to find actors attractive a lot easier than I find people in real life... for some reason.
