Horatio is home from his trip into the wilds of Tennessee, and he has presents! They are all wrapt very beautifully in gold paper with creamy white ribbons (and yes, the money for buying and wrapping them came from Hamlet--the reason they're so late is because of the wrapping. It's been several hours since His Highness the Prince of Denmark went out hunting, but Horatio despises the sport (because he fails at it completely because he is pathetic, but he'd rather that weren't in the narration), and therefore has been quietly at home, reading in the sun on a small grassy bank.
