I, unfortunately, will be in the field doing a bird survey. I'm sorry I won't be able to join you guys; the point counts call!

Ditto.
Though if anyone is up for May 3rd - I have a parking pass, and a ticket or two to spare.

I'm in for May 3rd! I want to go to Faire and that looks like the best weekend for me (even though I should be doing a Scriptorium that day.)

I've never actually been to a Renn Faire. I'm somewhat interested, but I also kinda think it might turn out like Medieval Times: A sad and pathetic imitation for someone who's been to an SCA war.

Well, nothing really beats the participation that goes on at a good SCA war. It's one thing to watch people choreograph and perform a fight and another to actually be in it. The appeal for me is the constant theme. For the most part (extreme notable exceptions withstanding) it is set in Elizabethan England. It has it's fair share of people who are just in it to get drunk like the pi-rats found at Potrero, as well as the people who really care about the history. I recommend you come out to see it with us and make your opinion there. At least if it sucks you'll be with SCA friends who will make it better!

You can't really compare Faire and the SCA. They are two different kinds of experiences. If you've never been, I'd recommend going. There are a lot of shows, there is a high concentration of people in Elizabethan finery (yes, plus a lot of customers for whom Faire is a big bizarre costume party), expensive but fun shopping and a total carnivale atmosphere. Go with an open mind and have fun.

I would love to go, if I wasn't stuck in the Vaterland!
