An Unfortunate Trend

H is for hatred, it’s good enough for me
H is for hatred, it’s good enough for me
H is for hatred, it’s good enough for me
Hatred, Hatred, Hatred starts with me!

So it’s 9 in the morning and I just got a chance to read careena’s post about her friend’s wedding. The homophobic phun phest if you will. This has inspired my post, which I’ve kind of been ( Read more... )

jeez. aside from me thinking that 'light her kitchen' would make a dandy euphemism, this type of inane bullshit never fails to stun me. out here in BFE, i'm still trying to determine what similar ignorance/fear/hate exists, and to what level. so far i've been pleasantly surprised, especially for somewhere this vanilla. maybe just a combination of 4000 yrs of pagan tradition and an ingrained art community tends to keep minds opened a bit. but i'm sure it's still out there.

on a lighter note, how's the Cooper S treating you?

Unfortunately, I think the lack of having her "kitchen lit" is probably 99.9% of the problem. My dad comes from a rural lot of folks... not rednecks, rural. And from what I've found, they have a real "Live and let live" attitude. Gays wanna marry? Sure. That's fine, whatever makes ya happy.

The Cooper S totally lights my kitchen.

It’s funny; this has been rolling back and forth around my noggin lately, too. I also equated it to blatant suburban backyard barbeque racism of the 50/60’s ( ... )

The majority of the forefathers were agnostic at best. That's why the Constitution was written as brilliantly as it was. They were subversive political radicals who emulated one of the greatest rebels documented in history: The guy who went against the fundamental tenants of the Jewish religion - I can't remember his name, he got crucified or something...

I hate it when conservatives claim to be upholding the intentions of the Framers or God. Ben Franklin would take a steaming dump on Rove's chest and Jesus would full immersion baptize Pat Robertson a little longer than is considered safe if given the chance...

Okay, maybe not, they were probably both a lot classier than that... but if you can say God Hates Fags than I can say Jesus would drown Pat Robertson.

I've got the fundie tribe coming over on the 24th. Which should be interesting considering my tribe will be there as well or as my mother put it, "Oh that woman had best keep her mouth shut!"

Ah, the holidays....

You may want to have a "special dinner prayer" ready for the occasion. If I recall a certain thread in a certain community from this summer, you may have some decent source materiel to draw on...

Oh God.

We humbly gather before you, well not really because if you truly are omnipresent then we're always before you, but perhaps not in this particular configuration... anyway... we thank you for the food that we might digest it comfotably and pass it with just that slight sensation of arousal and satisfaction that comes with a meaningful crap... I digress...

Jesus Christ Almighty, happy birthday, I hope you recieved everything you wanted, I personally would find it difficuly to shop for you... I mean are gloves an appropriate gift? Probably would help when those little items like change and stuff fall through... well you know where I'm going with this.

Even though we all know you were really born in the summer, I'm really glad you rearranged that because all the pagan orgies were killing my back and I would walk like I'd been riding a horse for a week...

Anyway, blah blah blah, thanks and stuff.

Amen.

Ah, yes. Homosexuality is a choice, say the fundie wingnuts, so it's okay to hate them and deny them civil rights.

Why do I have to continue to be nice to people like that? Oh, yeah, they're my blood relatives...

I try not to rant about this too often, because it affects me on a personal level-- I *am* the queer in the wedding party, y'know? Hard to be objective and know when I'm beating the drum so loudly it's obnoxious.

My problem in all this is that I simply fail to understand their mindset. I understand *why*, but not *how*. It's illogical. If I'm doing something that doesn't hurt anyone else and is okay with everyone involved, what does it have to do with your religion? Sure, I get pissed at things *they* do, but that's because they hurt people. I don't grasp the medieval mindset. Sigh.
