I've been sort of nudging at my writing projects and 'verses recently, and working on a prompt experiment type thing just to get myself writing. My novel for last year's NaNoWriMo just got its ending - not the last chapter, which I wrote, and which is done, in its way, but the actual ending. I had never been sure whether one of the main characters ( Read more... )

I want to do nanowrimo! I suck at writing but damnit I am going to try and fail again this year. Possibly try and succeed but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Ah, character motivation.

Yay! You totally absolutely should. It will be fun! We can talk over mic and I will harangue you about writing! And it's a really really great fun exercise and and yes! (NaNoWriMo: Progressively more cultish every year.)

I know, consistent character motivation in cable television? Astonishing!

Also oh my god exclamation points.

NaNoWriMo is not even a distant possibility in my universe right now, sadly. Glad to hear you're doing it, though!

Also, wow, Margaret Atwood. Dunno LeGuin.

The idea of Kristin Kreuk learning to act actually sort of depresses me. Like, "Wow, the Smallville I knew and, briefly, loved is really gone."

I'm sort of sad about SG-1 but having never watched it....not very sad.

Good luck with board games!

Margaret Atwood gets a wow? Hee! I really do love her. Ursula K. LeGuin wrote - hmm, the Earthsea books, which I only think you might've heard of because people keep trying and failing horribly to adapt them to film. (LeGuin is not only a female spec. fiction writer, but one who writes actual characters of colour. And then gets really pissed when people adapt her books and end suddenly everyone's white, and also boring. Actually, Kristin Kreuk was in one of the last adaptations.) LeGuin writes zomg-spaceship! stories with, you know, female characters, or at least people pointing out the weird lack of female characters, and gender commentary and sexual commentary and not everyone is the exact same sci-fi cookie-cutter protagonist and she is neat. Also she writes really neat more fantasy/basic lit style stuff that you might like, like, mm, Lathe of Heaven, maybe? It's a fairly thin book, if you ever get interested ( ... )

I have no idea who Zod even is, and the idea of Lana being attractive just annoys me. Hear no evil, see no evil, etc.

I really hope it's not Carter. Like, Carter is really cool but I do not want to watch fandom explode like that.

Oh, god, no. Besides, I'd think Amanda Tapping would like some time off by this point. She has her kid - I can see her just taking a long break. Daniel Jackson would make the most sense in-story, since he was the one that discovered Atlantis and worked for years and years and bloodsweattears etc. and only just recently got to even see the place, but Shanks might be getting pretty sick of the Stargate grind again. (He burnt out in SG-1 and left, wherein his character died. Then he realized he wanted to come back, and the fans were like ZOMGSAVEDANIEL! and the producers let him come back and his character un-died. One of the many times.) There are a handful of new characters that could come over, and might work sort of well, but - really, Daniel's the only one that would make sense to me, and the dynamic would still be pretty strange.

And Zod is Evil Kryptonian Guy, from the Superman movies. KNEEL BEFORE ZOD. Etc. I can explain further if you want but I think it would just make you hang your head.

1. I am writing a thing. It is slow, but I'm trying to write every day for it, only I forgot the day before yesterday and then again yesterday and you just reminded me. So thanks. I shall write a scene today.

For NaNoWriMo, I am planning on doing a silly fantasy story I started a while back about a destined savior who's really a horrible, selfish person and everyone wants her to save the world and she's like 'nah'.

Also I am roleplaying. Which is fun. Mostly on Once or in one-on-ones.

Also I have this little book by Ms LeGuin on how to write. It is all kinds of cool. It has writing exercises.

2. Heh, Smallville.

3. I loved SG1, but from the moment they introduced Those Two From Farscape I could not watch the show without going '...but they're from Farscape'. Which was sad, because the writing continued good, I just couldn't. I identified them with their other characters and it just didn't work.

Yay writing! And I'm so glad you're doing NaNoWriMo. We can all make a 'lil club and beat each over the head and go 'GO WRITE'. It will be lovely. And I really like the fantasy story idea - I've always wanted to see a Chosen Person do that. Be just like, no, fuck this, I'm cool, I'ma go take a nap. And everyone else be all ZOMGSAVETHEWORLDRIGHTTHISSECONDAGH.

Roleplaying is good! And, oo, I want to find that book. I adore how LeGuin writes, I have a book of her short stories to start when I'm done with one of the others, and her notes at the front, which I read, just make her seem like an inordinately cool, centered person with a great mindset about writing. A how-to book by her would be awesome.

Heee. Poor Smallville.

Aw. I actually started watching Farscape because those two showed up, and I think if I'd started with Farscape first I'd be just as disconcerted. Though for the 200th episode they did a really hilarious little Farscape parody scene which was very sweet.

I saw that 200th episode! I was all 'woo! Farscape!'
