Who do you look up to?

Alternately, up to whom do you look?

It can be anonymous if you want. I'm turning off the IP address logging thing for a few days.

edit Um, oops. It refuses to let you be anonymous, so I made it public.

I get what you're saying. Completely. And I've been there, too. I posted this because I just realized I have someone who's a role model for me in a positive way, and I wanted to see if other people did, and for what reasons.

I do have some, actually. Last night I wasn't in a great mood and I guess if I were to rethink my answer I'd say there are a few people that I do look up to and see as positive role models. =)

No one. I don't have that kind of faith in anyone. Plus, it's depressing.

i agree that you shouldnt look up to anyone because that only means that you are like following their path in a way. I want to be a trail blazer and set my own path so that others may follow me.

or at least, that's what i write on college essays :)

in response to everybody else's comments, i'd like to make a distinction between looking up to someone and trying to be someone. it's not unhealthy to say that there are certain behaviors you see in others that you want to emulate; it is unhealthy to say you want to be exactly like somebody in some aspect down to every minute detail, but there's nothing wrong with hoping to be as strong, as faithful, as loving, as open, as whatever as somebody you know.

that said, while i'm not a christian in that i believe that jesus christ actually was god, i know a lot about his life and his ideals and i want to be as like him as possible. i want to be more like ghandi. i want to be more like my mother, like my late grandmother, because they are the strongest women i know. i want to be more like my friend nick krainak.

i'm sure there's a longer list that i could come up with, were i to think long and hard on it, but these are the ones that i dwell on with any sort of consistency.

I agree with that. But unfortunately I have a tendency to go to extremes with everything, and for me it's often a very thin line between admiration and idolatry.
