Try my new trust metric!

I have implemented my new trust metric, and applied it (fairly crudely) to LiveJournal friends lists as an experiment. The result is a tool that tells you who is "closest" to your friends list who isn't actually on it, like "popfriends" but more sophisticated.

Who is closest to your friends list?Let me know how plausible the results seem to you ( Read more... )

Very interesting... my list mostly has people on it that I: 1) took off my frineds list only because I needed to trim it down some, or 2) have seen commenting in friends journals a lot.

Er... number one on my list has one friend in common with me. Is that right? How exactly does this thing work again?

... it seems it have to do with how many of my friends share the same friends on their list.
My result was matching exept two or three err,.. bloopers. Those were caused by the fact that I have 3 or 4 LJs of one person on my friendslist who have listed a few friends and communities in each of those LJs, so that I get a distorted view. Anyway the remaining list is quite accurate . :)

Fascinating. The list manages to exclude most of the people who are friends' friends but who aren't my friends for a reason (there are only three people on it who I actively hate, whereas "popwithfriends" gives me more than that). It includes my writing journal (not that there's probably a good way to get around it) and a few people who I've never heard of. Communities, feeds, and deleted journals should probably be excluded.

This was pretty cool! I must say the results make sense to me. :)
