My hypothesis is that your measured intelligence increases after you get a certain amount of sleep, mainly around 9 hours. They've done a lot of studies on attention or memory and sleep, but not actual intelligence. We can then go on to study other things related to this, like the effects of caffeine on either sleep-deprived or fully rested subjects, since caffeine decreases memory and increases attention. So finding out if/where the trade-off is equal or how screwed over your memory is could be pretty useful.
