Yes, folks, you read the subject line correctly! Has it been that long? Anyway, let's get cracking. Today, instead of a discussion, we have something I like to call a "Let Me Rec You" post. You comment with anything (author, a word in the title, genre, character, anything) and people (this means you) get to reply with one or more book/comic titles ( Read more... )

Well, I don't know about this in terms of similarity, but Ex Machina is outstanding, and it's also by Brian K. Vaughan, so there are comparable factors.

The magic toyshop by Angela Carter (I couldn't finish it, btw, way too twisted for me) warning: deals with sexuality

Not entirely sure if this would qualify, but Drawing Blood by Poppy Brite freaked me out. Lost Souls creeped me out to the point where I couldn't finish it, but more because of an incest scene. It's a vampire book, too. Drawing Blood is a wonderful haunted house/ghost story.

House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski, the most mindfuck of all mindfucks. It's a haunted house story, of a sort, and the most terrifying thing I've ever read. Warnings: violence, crazy type settings, and really long.

Ursula, Under by Ingrid Hill. I haven't read The Time Traveler's Wife but Audrey Niffenegger recommends it.

Kushiel Series by Jaqueline Carey (delves into erotica and D/s though)

Erotica is just fine with me! But what is D/s? Same as S&M maybe?

it's dominance/submission. The kushiel series, now that you mention it, may be more SM though.
