When I tell people this they usually gasp, or look at me as if I have an extra arm growing out from the shoulder however I honestly hated the books. (And yes I did actually read them. I finished half way through The Two Towers when I decided I couldn't take it anymore.)
I'm considering giving it another try since the last time I read it it was years ago but I'm not too optimistic
*hides* lol well if you have an extra arm then I have an extra head. I've never read or watched this series. Everyone just has their jaws hanging open. I just never got into it.
LOL! How about never having read any Harry Potter and only seen the first film on TV? ;) I don't know, I am kind of wary when a hype is so great. Same goes with Twilight, btw.
I mean, what does it say about a book, when people who never ever touched a book on their live before (and probably after) are raving about it. Then maybe I'm just a damn eliteist. :P
The Godfather. The cast was so amazing that the characters were just brought to life. And also the music was perfect to each of the scenes. The book went into more detail than necessary sometimes but I liked how faithfully the movie stayed to the book.
I am the biggest fan ever of the Godfather. I've watched it several times watch. I still think part 1 and 2 were the best. I have the dvd's, the restoration dvd's, the books, the audiobooks - everything. I spent too much money on it but it was well worth it. It's amazing how the books were brought to life. The books helped fill in questions that you may have had if you watched the movies in depth like I did. Just amazing.
Life would have been so much easier on Michael if he had the obedient Italian wife. But the bittersweet love story b/w Michael and Kay was great angst.
Twilight, but only because I really didn't like the book (and only got through half of it). I thought Bella's character was portrayed better... in the book she comes off quite arrogant, like she tiredly puts up with everyone around her (who fall at her feet) but secretly knows she's better than them. Also useless, as she keeps almost dying (and of course Edward saves her). She was a lot more likeable in the movie. And the minor characters, her new friends, were cardboard cut-outs in the book - you could have switched their names around and no one would notice - but the movie gave them slightly more depth. Plus, some of them were actually not white, and the diversity was a breath of fresh air.
My friend always says you should watch a movie and then read the book, because then you'll like both, but you'll hate the movie if you read the book first... It's mostly true for me, because I'm nitpicky. I hate any changes - big changes annoy me even though I know they're necessary for adaptation, and small changes annoy me because they're
( ... )
I think the book and movie were total opposites. I thought the book in this case was better. Maybe because I read it first and different expectations than what came out. To me the movie was a total let down. By readign it first I sort of got why girls are crooning over the series. But if I watched the movie, without reading the book I would have thought WTF?! THIS is what girls are screaming over? err...
Yeah, no, I have to agree with the girl above. I thought the books were the worst kinds of mind poison ever. Total conservative propaganda with creepy misogynistic vibes to it. The movie was so less offensive.
One of the best adaptations I've ever seen was the original Carrie. I don't know if I'd say it was better, but it's easier to follow than the epistolary novel.
I lovvve the book and movie for FIGHT CLUB, but I think the book was just slightly better. When you watch the film, it's easier to almost catch on to what's going on. I thought the surprise was a whole lot bigger when reading. Then again, I did read the book before watching the movie! But I totally loved the movie, too. :)
