My Florida Trail thru-hike
Hi everybody, I'm leaving today to hike the Florida Foot Trail www.floridatrail.org from Hobe Sound to Pensacola. I will be going West to Lake Okeechobee, then turning north for a little while, and then on west to complete the journey. So there I was, careening happily down the trail at a pace slightly faster than safe….but only slightly, so I could probably pick it up some. The race ended up not being as bad as I thought it would be, I ended up getting third place! My time was 1 hour 49 minutes, which is about a 7:10 pace average (I'm quite pleased). The trails were a lot of fun and there were some very challenging sections due to either very soft sand, steep ravines, roots, narrow singletrack, or long sandy uphills ( Read more... ) -

arg the race is saturday and my performance has been steadily and rapidly decreasing for the past oh, 3 weeks now. I went from thinking I'd run the 15 mile race at a 6:45min/mile pace, enough to contend for an overal 1st place which I've never gotten before, to now doubting that I'll be able to keep up a slow jog for even half the distance. These "book" things are dangerous....... I've been hopelessly lost in the woods before; and whether you're dozens of miles away from anything or 200 yards to the car, it doesn't matter- you are fully, painfully aware of the consequences of being in this state of utter lostness, and all the worst-case scenarios (which can and do come true), so ( Read more... ) -

I'm taking a spanish class right now, and since my housemate speaks spanish, I've always been able to ask him how to say a word or interpret something. But tonight, I flew solo for the first time :0 We had an assignment to meet 5 people in spanish, ask them where they're from, etc. Since there are a lot of mexicans around where I live, it wasn't ( Read more... ) -

Ever since I've had the pleasure of knowing Mac (my dog, who fell in to my life almost a year ago), most of my posts have included him or been directly about him. That's because he's been such a blessing in my life. Mac and I have grown closer together every day, and the companionship is a true friendship.
