We returned from our delectable dinner in Italy around 11:40pm, and had everybody tucked in just after midnight. The first daylight view that met Luis and I out one of the windows from our bedroom the next morning was enchanting:
What a lovely, if perhaps a bit crammed-full-of-stuff day - I'm so not sur[rised that you were tired at the end of it! Especially that Basilica really sounds fascinating, being able to go all the way down into the Mithraic temple, wow... :)
If you ever get to Rome for a visit, you must go to see it in person. I could have stayed there for hours. We didn't even look around the top level, and it was as gorgeous as usual. And the walls below were filled with chunks of marble statues that had been used as filler, if you can believe it. Loved being able to walk through and touch the walls as we went.
I've been to Italy but not to Rome (just Venice and the Tirol region). You've just convinced me to go see it (someday), and to hire Suzanne if at all possible! :-)
