Tulane lies about your room condition (rooms not on the first floor were damaged) and your stuff DOES go missing (I met people whose laptops and jewelry were stolen). All they do is tell you to fill out a form for the missing stuff

my mom went to get my stuff on friday. and although i was told by the vp of student programs that everything was untouched...it was dispersed into like 15 boxes. but nothing smelled bad. and although i have not had a chance to inventory everything...all of my valuables were taken with me...so i dont consider a pair of steve madden heels "valuable." well...i do...but not to the extent of what i brought with me.
frankly just1boy...i think youre freaking everyone out more than necessary. i understand your a journalist and its your job, but i think some people are still really sensitive to the situation and you should be considerate of that.
This kind of sensationalism accomplishes nothing. No offense, but I put a lot more faith in the information Tulane releases than in your information. Even if student belongings were damaged, I care a lot more that Tulane got me out of New Orleans uninjured than I care if my TV or clothes or some other useless material thing got destroyed. Some people might rather worry about Tulane "lying" to us than consider the opportunities that we could have to help rebuild and improve both Tulane and New Orleans. I, for one, look forward to the unique opportunities that we will have at Tulane come January.
In all honesty, I am one of Tulane's BIGGEST supporters. All the work i have done and continue to do with Tulane is not for any lack of interest.
Talk to some kids who've gone and see if their experience is similar. I had a friend who went today and got other people's stuff (Mayer and Willow dorms) but he lives in Wall.
It's not the loss of clothes or books that were supposed to be fine, it's the loss of pictures and other irreplaceable items things due to negligence and theft.
Honestly, talk to other upperclassmen who have learned to listen to everything from Tulane or take a trip back yourself. I flew all the way from London to pick my possessions up and when you walk up to your dorm and see plastic covering it, you'll understand.
im not saying that you're not telling the truth, but if there is that much stuff missing and the stuff wasn't really packed professionally, there will be a huge lawsuit on their hands, and i dont think they'd be that stupid.
as for them lying about damage, im in agrreance with you. i havent gone to get my stuff (and didnt plan on it), but my mother's friend is form southern louisiana and she said that even if water doesnt get into a building, mildew can still occur. im sorry about your stuff and i hope it turns up soon.

Why is this on livejournal? It seems to me if you were to tell the entire story, not just bits of it then it belongs someplace else. This is a web blog, and yes you are just freaking people out unnecessarily. I can't get my stuff for 2 months and you telling me I might need to do some extra laundry isn't something new. There's a bigger picture. I take it you have been through the area where house are marked with "DOA." I can thank God that wasn't me.

Actually, yes.
I'm sorry i'm just kind of pissed with Tulane when they say that everything is safe and you come in and other people's stuff is given to you, valuables are missing and people cant get their own stuff. If they'd just tell it like it is, i'd be fine.

You don't understand losing your watch, books and the collection of your world travels over the past 10 years.
I met people who lost laptops and other valuables.
I'm sorry that you think people are being freaked out but when you come home to find your home empty and your possessions dispersed, it's crazy.
By the way, the VP of Student Programs is not the person to talk to, the VP of Housing and Res Life is the one to talk to.
