My first lesson in Vietnam has been taught..hurrah! It was a one-on-one Corporate class with a dude that works with Cisco systems. Jeeeez, this is millions of times more rewarding than teaching in Korea. I'm not being watched, for one, or required to stand or play with stinking Liliputians for hours and hours. seems like esl teaching is the perfect career for misfit types (se asia also being the land of misfit toys). we have a former mime from flint for instance, who rides his bike everywhere (really scary in hanoi) and refuses to use a phone. the creepy teacher is so strange though. he's cultivated some image of himself that i haven't quite discerned yet. maybe like chris angel (of mindfreak fame). open shirt with a big pewter cross on his shaven chest. flowing hair. a background in marshal arts. really loud voice with a thick boston accent (eventhough he's from australia). tells sort of awkward anecdotes that usually include bizarre violence. types like he's trying to hurt the computer. oddball.
