QotD

Rachel's post inspired me to a QotD:

What five books would you assign to an alien race as required reading before they visited Earth for the first time? (Assume they're peaceful.)

Ames, I've discovered a new drink: Diet Pepsi with Lime. It is shockingly good.

monica, i'm having trouble with this question. i think i'm overthinking it. do you mean what 5 books would you give an alien to explain to him/her/it what we're about as a society? or 5 books you just think an alien would enjoy?

i'm going to assume it was the latter and answer:
the Bible
Webster's dictionary
Janson's History of Art
The Joy of Cooking
a People magazine

hehe
I'M GOING TO SEE CONAN TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Janson's History of Art

Did you see the NY Times article about how they've revamped Janson's? Interesting.

Also, I expect full details about Conan.

Thank you for the inquiry, Ms. Gordon.

I was asking for the former, actually - like, how would we best educate an alien race about ourselves? It sprang from the question in the poll that Rachel posted - what should be "required reading for the human race"? It's a question designed to expose deep philosophical values of anyone who answers. Rather like a game we once played in a high school German class, where we decided who (out of a diverse group of twenty) should be able to survive a nuclear holocaust and repopulate the planet. (Predictably, I chose all the weak disabled gay brown people.)
