Maybe it all depends on what they pursue in life and what their personalities craft for them? I can’t say I’m all that surprised by this article though. Many of my friends and their spouses for go the whole kid thing all togethor, and as a step-dad, I cannot ( Read more... )

Pop psychology. gotta love it ;)
The article seems to state that women are happier earlier because they get the kids/house/hubby early on and assume that's the total package of happiness. Then they load up on material happiness and later, when the kids are out and on their own they have no mechanism to fill that void.
So, if they don't enjoy happiness along the way in other forms like their own, how can they achieve the slow comfortable burn of it the rest of their life?

I'll opine that L's juggling act and trying to fly solo with putting out fires was necessity not a choice. You chose to be a step-dad.

I thought I heard shades of that AMC series Madmen myself! I'm just saying that people get more personally invested in things or activities we are good at and excell in! Pop psychology or not, that nugget is true even if empty nester syndrome is real or memorex!

Me, I like the kids when I dont want to duct tape them like trussed hogs and sel them by the pound on eBay. In my world they are a cost of doing business to have Zan, but its our sole responsibility to raise them as best as we can, and in such a way that they don't boomerang back into the house as adults too often or for very long at all!

Gotta run, bathtub is almost full......
