Well, it certainly is a better answer than "publishers are lining up to print my epic and totally not derivative work!" Although I was looking forward to the possibility of a lengthy silence...

I HATE THAT I GOT SCAMMED BY THAT USELESS GODDAMN WASTE OF SPACE EVEN IF IT
WAS A GODDAMN APRIL FOOL.

Andy, if you read this: I will not keep any of your secrets any longer. No victim is beholden by honor to keep their promise of silence TO AN ABUSER. Real honor is something you very literally know nothing about. Enjoy your pranks now, you dishonorable, cowardly, pathetic excuse for a human being.

WORD! I felt the same way--"How DARE you tell a lie that was actually MEANT to be a lie??" Of all the triple reverse switchbacks...

Come ON, Amy, this is the one day the rest of us get our chance to dish out bullshit. Your whole fugging life is one enormous April Fool's joke (which is NOT FUNNY, by the way). You've more than met your "prank" quota.

It's unfortunate, but since it is so hard to get anyone to go out on a limb and actually publish something that hasn't been done before, it makes it easy to believe something like this would happen. Hollywood and the like always want to know the thing will sell, and the best way to do that is to have your product mimic an established, wildly popular product. I've no doubt Amy is or has already tried to get her carp to the point where she can make money off of it. That would be the ultimate scam.

Well, shoot, most sci fi/fantasy writing owes at least a teensy homage to either Tolkien or Jules Verne--who kinda owe sources like Greek and Roman mythology. The wheel keeps coming back around.

I don't mind so much the concept of Amy "mooching" ideas from Rowling's books. What I do mind is the concept of her having access to her own fen. Given how she's fucked up other author's fans by capitalizing on their love and enthusiasm, I just shudder to think of what she's capable of if she was the actual celebrity for a large population of fans. Jonestown, anyone?

"Given all the private cult/brainwashing business in which Amy Player specializes, can you even imagine the lives she will ruin if she becomes a "legitimate" famous author? "

I would be scared, but I will bet you cash money she's totally fucking lying about getting published!

Next Step: A fake kickstarter to get her a load of cash supposedly to self-publish.

Oh crap. Did I just give her an idea?

I'd been reading Thanfiction's stories for quite some time. I never got around to read 'A Peccatis' (did s/he--I'm not sure what noun s/he prefers?--even complete that one?). I knew s/he had had some mental issues and that a friend was murdered but the more I try to pry in it all the weirder it gets. On the other hand, the entire hype and sub-fandom actually scared me ...

Oh well. It was fun (although crazy) while it lasted. Thanks for clearing it up somewhat.
