Just read the book yesterday. Read the whole thing in one day. Well done! I'm so glad someone bothered to tell the world about Those Two. I wasn't directly involved, but I knew a couple of people who were.

Anyway, I just wanted to know: did you give Those Two a copy of this book about them? I can understand if you don't want to give them any more gifts, but really, I think this might be a good exception to make! A little late for Christmas, but so what? Heh heh heh....

Hee hee, no way, if they want to read it, they gotta pay for it! No more freebies for them!

Fortunately, it should be on the shelves at several nearby bookstores by now, for their convenience.

There are con artists in every walk of life, not just LOTR fandom. Besides, if you pass up the fun just to avoid the possibility of running into people like Those Two, well, then they've won a victory that they don't deserve.

Well, if it's Greg T. that's been spreading the word, then he's talking about Amy. I filled him in on the tale last year when he came to TolCon--and he said "Oh, yeah, I heard something about that."

Hi Turimel, I only came across this site a few months ago, and it's been a fascinating read.
One thing I wanted to mention from this entry, which is an excerpt from a letter you sent to Amy Player's parents:

She used the IRA business to explain why she never used her name or ID--she said that if she were to use her social security number in any official way, the IRA would find her and kill her. I had no way to prove that story, and it WAS far fetched, but on the other hand, I had no way to DISPROVE it either. The IRA does exist, that means there are people out there in real fear of it, it is therefore not impossible that I would run into such a person. Furthermore, Jordan even connected the IRA story to the Elijah Wood story. There was real celebrity gossip that Elijah's father had left his mother years ago, and when Elijah turned 21, the father had tried to make contact with the son and had been turned away. People Magazine or something like that had run this story. Amy explained in detail how this was the pattern in the IRA--that ( ... )

That's not to say that people who wanted to leave didn't have to go on the run, but that's a different story.
The fact is that the present IRA emerged from a genuine freedom fighting movement (the French Resistance and so on were inspired by them) and so its basis is not that of an organisation like the Mafia, even if its reputation has worsened since those days of yore.
