To the anonymous poster...No doubt, and yet, due to the kindness of our friends, we managed to have a beautiful wedding regardless. During it all Linda and I also donated close to $600 to a friend in peril of loosing his home. We also kicked in about 70% of our income for the proceeding 8 weeks. This was done while Linda was unemployed. True, we might have had more, might have had to rely on our friends less, but when your income is fairly close to your out go, there is little to no chance of the great buys of a "middle class life". Linda and I will NEVER own a home, NEVER own a new car. NEVER go on opulent vacations. Both of us take the small, discrete, self contained pleasures the we CAN afford in our various hobbies. DEnnsi Leary was correct, Pleasure comes in small packets. Especially when your working poor. Our only great wealth IS our friends....

That's right, you just keep telling yourself that.

I don't follow you...when was I ever one of the "ins"?.....My family was middle class. I've been working poor my entire life. I admit, it's first world poverty. I don't need to sell blood for food. Yet. It may come to that some day. Like a lot of people in my situation, I'm one disaster from homelessness, poverty, destitution. I don't see why precisely I should make my life any more miserable by being more ascetic then I need to.
