I had the privilege of serving on U. Michigan's faculty senate Civil Liberties Board ten years ago, when Michigan Prop. 2 denied LGBT couples the same rights of marriage the rest of us have, and UofM began the long rear-guard action to try to preserve its own internal equality of benefits against a GOP state government bent on extinguishing them.
