I was there for a week. Feels like I was there for a month, because mom is type A on speed. They haven't moved there yet, but I'm thinking in a year they'll be in Ajijic.
and thanks! it was a really good time. I was lucky to have seen it all.
Kinda makes me almost wish I'd taken more pictures when on the cruise (not just Mexico, but all of the Latin American ports of call). But, yeah, I couldn't really bring myself to take a picture of the poverty, most of the time. Plus, I didn't have a very good camera. And, most importantly, I didn't want to look like a tourist (it's nice to not get asked for money or followed around, like the rest of the crew and passengers always were).
One of the best things I saw was a giant Mexican band playing for a mock bullfight. It looked like everyone, of every age, for miles around, who had a musical instrument, or something similar to one, was crowded onto a little platform, wearing old marching band uniforms. It sounded great! I didn't even have a camera with me, unfortunately, much less one to take a video. I probably posted about it back then, 100 years ago....
they were there within minutes. they just weren't sure what to do, except wave something under my nose because they thought I was fainting.
no one takes no for an answer, either. when I fell, some people helped me up to my feet and asked if I needed an ambulance. I said no in every language I could think of, and still. here's your ambulance, ma'am.

How long were you in Mexico? Does your mom live there yet, or still just visiting often?

but still, the things I really want to document, I can't. If I worked for the NGO or something, I might feel less tacky about it.
