Recipe Ruckus

I decided to not eat sugar for 2 weeks. On Wednesday the 2 weeks will be up. I'm not sure how I feel about this. Nathan and I have planned on making brownies and eating mint ice cream with them, which I am most definitely looking forward to (I've been browsing zine distros today and the term "vegan chocolate brownies" keeps popping up EVERYWHERE), ( Read more... )

That's fabulous about going off sugar. Did you feel any differences? I hope your body handles the dessert okay -- if you want a meddlesome suggestion, you could try to eat a moderate amount instead of a huge serving. That might be better on your body than shocking it with massive amounts of chocolate and sugar.

That said, I'm now drooling into my keyboard over the idea of brownies and mint ice cream. I really flip for mint. Can't resist it. Sometimes I add a drop or two of peppermint essential oil to chocolate or vanilla ice cream, just for that minty goodness.

Mmmm, potatoes. I'm making mashed potatoes tonight, but I'll have to try this recipe soon. I've never used sundried tomatoes...probably our grocery would have them, though. Are they vital to the recipe, or will fresh substitute?

I don't feel as hyper or as slightly jittery/sluggish. It's hard to tell. I think when I eat sugar again I'll know for certain. Are you still off sugar?

Mint is so awesome! I too have the habit of adding a drop of peppermint to sweet stuff. One drop is all, though. That stuff is POWERFUL!

Yup, sundried tomatoes are pretty vital. They lend this strong, condensed, chewy, sweet, oily aspect to the dish.

When we switched to organic foods, we kind of lightened up on the no sugar thing. We still avoid refined sugars (and other refined foods), but it's not a total no-no. I can usually feel it when I get a big dose of even organic refined sugar; my wrists ache and I'm generally not as healthy.

I'll have to see if I can get my hands on sundried tomatoes, then. Thanks!

No sugar?! I don’t think I could do that. Ok - I could, but I don't think it'd be very enjoyable. I hope someday I'll do it and not feel desperate for sugar. I have all these big plans for my eating habits when I move out. Hopefully I'll live near a farmer's market. I think I could live on fruits and veggies easy. ::sigh:: Right now I'm pretty attached to sugar, though.

You can do it. If I can do it, so can you! (Oh, jeez, how trite can I get?) Another thing that I like about this, ah, regimen: it's good self discipline. I'm naturally a lazy, indulgent kind of gal, and this has kind of straightened me up. (That is, it's like I was slouching before and now I'm sitting up straight) I like being able to control myself.

When you move out, you mean for the Peace Activist thing in July? Shoot, what's it called? Is it just for July? It might take me that whole month to write back to your gigundously juicy lovely kickass letter, but in case I happen to finish a letter it'd be good to have your address.

Farmer's markets (is that farmer's or farmers or farmers' or...?!) are health meccas. I always feel so happy and pure and earthy buying local honey, goat cheese, lettuce, etc. So even if it's more the mental effect they're a good idea. :)

By "move out" I mean when I leave home :) And I think it's Farmer's but I guess it could be Farmers'. I bet Mike would know...
