My internet is running slow due to me going over my limit... which I thought was, frankly, virtually impossible... but I did. And now I'm sad . I would like to put up some songs but I guess that'll have to wait

just a suggestion - try to avoid dubbed films wherever you can. always try to watch them sub-titled. such should be the case with hayao mayazaki films. the dubs are of a tolerable quality, but stuff is often (if not always) lost in translation (particularly the cultural context of japan) by and large this is due to americans having to 'americanise' (ie - dumb down) a film, and the main victim is language/dialogue.
sigh. like howl's moving castle, the only place they're showing it in jap is it newtown dendy.
other than that, although before sunset and before sunrise are perfect for what they are, i don't think films made in the same vain would be good or better than say... an grand epic. but then i also kind of figure what you're trying to say is that more films should be as perfectly composed as those two, regardless of type/genre.
to which i'd say, blame hollywood and its waning sense of dignity/integrity.
and you should start your own christian rock band! hahahah... :)
I don't care to much for being so true to the original. I mean, I wouldn't kill myself over it. Anyway, as long as I get the real core message I'm fine. But at least I'm not completely ignorant, knowing that there are differences between the jap and the dubbed one. Some fanboys would have no idea, you know?
No, I kinda meant I like the subject matter and the kinds of movies they are. And I wish more movies like that could come along but then I'd probably say they're just trying to rip off those two movies. So it's a lose/lose situation.
i'm not much with the liking of complacency towards cultural bastardisation, is all.
a particular line in 'spirited away' dub (in comparison to the original dialogue) upset me greatly. i would hope that anyone with a sense of culture would agree. but at the same time, i don't wish anyone to watch the english dub of 'spirited away'.
