Would you prefer explanations along with the votes? Indifferent, but not opposed.
Would you prefer the replies to remain spoiler free? I don't care about spoilers.
:: Evil Does Well
What defines a villain for you? Why? The main force of opposition in books/movies/etc and usually the characters I like the most. I feel villains are complex and much more interesting than heroes 98% of the time.
What is the best back-story (past) a villain can have, and why? Backstories involving tragedy and an explanation as to why they are the way they are. Villains who are evil for stupid reasons or no reason at all annoy me because it means they're poorly developed.
What should be a villain's perfect weapon, and why? His mind/intellect. I think it takes away from the impact of evil when villains rely on outside sources and weaponry rather than their mental arsenal.
What is the appropriate weakness for the ultimate villain, and why? Not understanding loyalty/compassion/etc due to their past.
:: The Evils of the World
Name a few of your favorite literary/t.v./movie villains: Bellatrix Lestrange (Harry Potter), Victoria (Twilight), Benjamin Linus (LOST), Joker (Batman), Scarecrow (Batman), Barbossa (Pirates of the Caribbean) just to name a few - the villains are usually my favorite characters.
Choose one (of the mentioned above) villain and explain why he's the perfect villain: Joker - he's probably one of the best villains of all time because of his character's evolution over the years and his relationship with Batman is so epic, how can anyone not adore it?
:: This or That
Works Alone or Leads an Army? Works alone
Angry or Numb? Angry
Capable of Love or Incapable of Love? Capable (but unlikely to cultivate the feeling)
Eerily Sane or Completely Insane? Eerily sane
Blood-hungry or Revenge-Seeking? Blood hungry
God-complex or Problem with Authority? God complex (with a hint of authority problem)
:: The Road to Hell is Paved with Good Intentions
The villain of your story once belonged to a 'happy' family, until something happens, and they're dead. What do you think happened? While out and about, some maniac with a gun begins shooting out to the public, his family unfortunately being caught in the fire and die. The culprit is reprimanded and caught by authorities, but this does nothing to calm the restless mind out villain now possesses.
The villain of your story falls in love with a girl, but another man claims her (being richer and better). What do you think this does to him? It makes him angry, but he isn't revenge driven - the situation simply cracks his mind and leads him to a life of evil. This newfound blow would give him a great dislike of women, furthering his dislike the human population as a whole while further complicating his vision of self-worth because she would not have him.
The villain of your story had been holding a woman ransom - occasionally torturing her - and for some reason, when someone's about to kill him, she stops them. What should be his reaction? Extreme confusion and conflict - he saw women as untrustworthy, horrible creatures and now one is trying to save his life. It opens up a sliver of doubt about the way he's seen women and people as a whole and although he'll be carted off to an institution should be captured, it's a step for him towards rearranging how he perceives the world around him although it's difficult to say if he'll ever have the mindset of normal people.
