Emmy Winner James Spader

Sep 20, 2004 04:27

It seems odd that my two favorite hot older men were up against each other for an Emmy last night . . . and I didn't even realize it until this past weekend.

I know I said that Keifer deserved an Emmy solely based on the last five minutes of this season of 24 -- the crying jag to end all crying jags -- but when it came down to casting my own ( Read more... )

I doubt there is any other actor on the planet that is so synonymous with dirty dirty goodness.

:-D

i loved his acceptance speech, too. he's such a strange, funny man. i remember seeing him on ELLEN, and they just talked about their dogs the whole time. it was very odd.

didn't alan rickman look gooooooood? heh.

i really liked drea de matteo's speech as well. that was hilarious (and most importantly, short). wtf happened to allison janney. i think she had a brain aneursym somewhere between her seat and the stage.

i also liked the cops-style camera work on meryl streep on her way to the podium. and what about the dude who won for the production of the oscars, who was up in the booth? he was like howard dean's alter ego?

all in all, a pretty entertaining emmys night.

I loved that Alan Rickman was there, even though everybody knew his category was going to Pacino . . . and yeah, he did look quite spiffy. :-D

I'm so glad Drea de Matteo won . . . but Michael Imperioli threw me for a loop! I think he absolutely deserved it, but I figured Steve Buscemi was all over that. (And Brad Dourif really should win one eventually -- if only Carnivale was actually nominated in an acting category to go along with its HBO brethren!)

How Allison Janney continues to win year after year shocks me . . . not because she doesn't deserve it, but because everybody knows The West Wing sucks now. I really thought this one was going to Edie Falco.

Meryl Streep rocks my socks. I can't believe nobody has tapped her to do a comedy (outside of the last half of Adaptation) since Death Becomes Her. She is so funny! We'll have to see how things turn out in Lemony Snicket . . .

And best of all, Arrested Development won! I swear, I could almost hear the smile on Fox's face. For once they actually made the right ( ... )

That was the best :o)

There is nothing better than impromptu cleverness in an acceptance speech. :-D

I thought I was the only one who loved Spader on The Practice! I have been a fan of his since Cronenberg's "Crash". I knew of him as an actor from the 80's and early 90's but didn't realy pay attention until "Crash".

And I agree that Allison Janney should not have won. Although I'm also sick of Edie Falco. I was over her the day she left "OZ". C'mon emmy people...give my nighttime-dreamtime wife her Emmy...Jennifer Garner so desrves it.

Spader falls into that very small category of 80s actors who I never liked (similarly with Keifer Sutherland) . . . until they became middle-aged and a bit less pretty. Now I think he is just completely worship-worthy. It also helps that he usually plays some sort of sexual degenerate .. . and you know I love that. :-P

I thought Edie Falco should have won last year for the big divorce episode -- I cried through the whole thing. But you're right -- Jennifer Garner deserved it this year. The whole memory loss premise made for a very powerful season. I can't believe we have to wait until January for the new season!
