Best Random Simpsons Quote Ever.

Mar 07, 2005 00:36

Springfield Elementary is on a field trip and the kids have to pull the school bus over a mountain with chains strapped to their backs.

Uder the German Exchange Student: "I feel like I'm in Fitzcarraldo!"

Nelson: "That movie was flawed!"

I'm probably one of like 5 people who laughed at this, but I laughed hard enough for the masses!

I think a good half of the humor of the Simpsons is in who they choose to say their lines. If Martin had said that, or even Bart, it wouldn't have been nearly as funny as having Nelson say it.

Exactly . . .

Just like how the Fitzcarraldo line wouldn't have been a tenth as funny if anybody who wasn't Uder said it! :-P

(Or it could just be that I'm partial to German accents, having grown up with German-speaking relatives and imitating them for company all my life.)

Nah, because it sold the line even better for those of us geeky enough to not only remember that Fitzcarraldo wasn't just a movie about a train in a rainforest, it was a GERMAN movie about a train in a rainforest.

Any time Simpsons writers reward the geekiness of their audience, it's an easy homerun.

I said train.

I meant boat.

I have no idea where that came from. I blame the cold meds.

I know!! I laughed so hard, and then looked around and saw my family looking at me in such a confused manner . . . my only thought was, "Well, if Darcy was here, she'd get it!"

I read about that documentary, but I've never seen it unfortunately.

I miss your daily posts! Is your new job keeping you super busy??

hey, yeah, the new job is quite time-consuming. but in a better-than-before way.

there are a couple scenes in the documentary where kinski is running around during fitzcarraldo, spitting and screaming because some lowly camera guy or someone like that talked to him. it was nuts.

no one seems to be as happy to comment on my daily posts as before, so i've been writing a bunch of private ones. ah well.

dude, are you as excited for "danny the dog" aka unleashed, as i am? written by luc besson (supposed to rival "leon"), directed by the guy who did "the transporter" (mmmmm...jason statham), and starring jet li, morgan freeman, and bob hoskins? i'm so jazzed about that.

Yeah, I'm one of the masses. I hate when they put in references that I know I don't get. Like the entire episode modeled off "The Prisoner."

though I did enjoy the multiple references to Harvard geek Simpsons writers in Arrested Development afterwards!

That was such a random pop culture jab for Arrested Development. Needless to say, it pleased me greatly!

For me, the big Simpsons episode that I know I'm missing 99% of the jokes in is "Cape Feare" from season 5. I love it to bits because Sideshow Bob is at his best, and the Gilbert and Sullivan references appeal to my music geek roots -- but all of the horror movie spoofs go right over my head! Argh!
