I've previously posted about my journey to live openly and honestly and the personal decision to never, ever play the "pronoun" game...not with friends, not with coworkers, not with family and not with strangers. It's my belief that we can never truly be free until we are ( Read more... )

Now you got me sitting at work with tears running down my face. Will you be my big brother?

Tom and I ran into this in Boston. We've always enjoyed a variety of friends. At our goin-away party one of our friends, Miss Chris, came from work in full drag, and the bears were like, "What the fuck is that doing here".

We told them, hey Chris is awesome, kind, genuine, and hilarious, he's emceed Boston pride several times. Plus, I always add the same point you made, we'd not have a gay civil rights movement if the drag queens hadn't fought back. We owe them so much. We abhor ppl for degrading us for our size and such, well don't degrade them for their sexuality too.

noones perfect, sometimes I roll my eyes at an uber-femmes, and you're right, we should not do such things.

I finally came out here, I took tom to my xmas dinner, the "pronoun game" was killing me. I didn't realize how sad it made me. I still hate it here, but at least a big weight has been lifted off my shoulders.

HUGS! for you being you!

The Bear Is My Family pupcubtx2k January 12 2009, 22:57:09 UTC
Thanks for posting this bear, sorry to say I didn't jump on and read it when I first saw it. We are lucky to know someone like you who is willing to stand out and live your life so openly as amazing example to the rest of us. You're so right when it comes to discrimination within our own ranks, if it weren't for those out and proud, this is who I am like or not activists from Stonewall and countless other moments in history we wouldn't be where we are now. It is really easy to get complacent and feel safe when you fit in and everything seems normal, it isnt until youre faced with the reality that there are those struggling for the same freedoms we have daily. Whether it be a gay or straight, white or black, or just different in any form, find the fight you want to resolve and take the time to make a difference ( ... )

Hi, Big D emery42 January 22 2009, 05:00:07 UTC
You know I've heard the same sort of comments about the feminists of the 70s, and perhaps they're dinosaurs, but they took a lot of risks and made a lot of changes for women in this country.

Anyway, as you can see, I finally took time to register on LiveJournal so I could post comments on your blog. Not that I needed another blog, but I don't mind the social networking opportunities.

I know this is going to show how much of a grammar nerd I am, but I thought it was kind of ironic when I received an e-mail message telling that you had replied to my comment and because it didn't know what gender you are, it said, "Their reply was:"

It's the pronoun game, LiveJournal style.
